Pattern Drafting and Fitting Workshop: Trousers

Draft your very own trouser block from your measurements and fit it with expert help to make the perfect trousers!

8 hours Class size 3 to 6 guests       £125

Create your own perfectly fitting trouser patterns in this full-day workshop. Join me for a fun and inclusive day of learning as we guide you at your own pace through the process of creating your very own trouser block based on your unique measurements. We'll then make a toile (this is a fitting sample - not your final wearable trousers!) to test the fit and transfer these adjustments to your patterns. Finally, if time allows, we'll look at how use your block to create different aspects of trouser design.
In this welcoming and supportive environment, you'll learn the fundamentals of pattern drafting, from taking accurate measurements to translating them into a custom trouser pattern. I will be by your side every step of the way, offering personalised guidance and expert tips to ensure your pattern fits like a dream.
Come as you are, bring your enthusiasm, and leave with your bespoke trouser blocks to go on to make your perfect pair at home, or in the 6 Week Garment Making Course!
For this workshop we'll be mostly standing, working at the cutting table with small parts of the day seated for sewing or breaks. The studio is upstairs in an old victorian building that unfortunately has no lift.
Please note this workshop is about drafting the patterns, we do not make a wearable pair of trousers although if you are happy with the fit it may become a wearable toile! At the end of the day you will be going home with your block draft, patterns, toile and pattern blocks on card or a roll of card to transfer your blocks to at home!
You are welcome to bring lunch or there are a large choice of cafes on Easter Road, a 2-minute walk away. Tea, coffee, and sweet snacks will be provided. You will be welcome to stay in the studio for lunch and/or return to continue your patterns at any time.
What you'll get
  • Paper, card and specialised tools needed to make your block and patterns
  • Use of the studio's sewing machines
  • Fabric for making toiles / fit samples of your patterns
  • Expert help fitting your trousers
  • Reference notes to take home on what we covered in class

Knowledge required
Some experience using commercial patterns will be the perfect starting point for this class. When making your own patterns they don't come with instructions, so this will help you have an idea how to put them together at home.
Students should also know how to use a sewing machine.
If you're a beginner, come to the Beginner Sewing Workshop and/or Sustainable Sewing Course first to build up your skills in these areas!
What to bring
Nothing is needed. If you would prefer to take your measurements at home, bring a note of these.
You're also welcome to bring your own sewing machine if preferred, but there will be machines available to use in the studio.
