Make an Upcycled Vest from a Blanket or Quilt: Sewing Course

Design and sew your own upcycled vest from a quilt or blanket over this 4-week sewing course in Edinburgh.

4 x 2 hours 15 mins Class size 1 to 5 guests       £130

In this class, you'll use vintage and reclaimed materials to make a unique and cosy vest! You'll dive into the art of upcycling old fabrics to make something new while crafting a piece of wearable art that reflects your unique style. We will guide you through the entire process, from customising the pattern to cutting out your vest and adding finishing touches.
Choose from a selection of thrifted quilts that can be supplied for you as an optional extra or bring your own materials. If you'd like to choose from our selection of quilts, please tick the box at checkout when booking, or you can decide to add this on later. The current selection available is pictured in the last photo.
It's also possible to quilt your own fabric for this class, however sewing at home would be needed in order to complete the vest in the timeframe. Please factor in roughly 2.5h of sewing at home after both weeks 1 & 2 if you would like to patchwork & quilt your own fabric! You are welcome to use fabric offcuts from the studio for this.

  • 5/5 from Christina Malcolm, attended Feb 2026: Amazing class. I was a complete beginner and Jen helped me every step of the way to sew and to build confidence. Also.. I love the cute vest I made!
  • 5/5 from Catherine Wilson Garry, attended Feb 2026: Absolutely incredible class. Jen is incredibly friendly, welcoming and knowledgable and makes everything really easy to understand. The pattern is so adaptable and Jen is great at helping you make it suit you. I would look forward to this class all week! I am in love with the vest I have made. Huge thank you Jen!
  • 5/5 from Bethany Myers, attended Feb 2026: Very lovely laid back sewing class!! Learnt a lot of techniques for using bias binding and other bits and pieces. Have a unique vest and inspiration to make more things!! Thanks Jen!
  • 5/5 from Jesse, attended Jan 2026: I signed up to the class as a complete beginner who had never used a sewing machine before and I had such a great time. The step by step instructions were really clear, it was a relaxed and supportive atmosphere in a small group so Jen had ample time to support everyone. She is such a lovely and patient teacher. It really helped me to do the intro to the sewing machine and she also extended our last session by 30-60ms so everyone would have time to complete their project. I'm so happy with what I made, I can't believe I managed to create it in just three weeks. This has given me the bug and I will try and make another vest at home by myself.
  • 5/5 from Karla Butler, attended Jan 2026: I attended a class on making a reversible vest warmer from leftover fabric made of Merino wool and silk, where the fabric was provided for an extra £10, or you could bring your own fabric and pay an extra £5 if you want to keep the pattern. I learned a new skill on how to apply wadding to fabric with the expert advice of Jane. With her relaxed approach to teaching, she encourages being creative with your project. I would recommend this class as you will leave with a wearable warmer that will be unique to you :)
