Come along to an immersive photography workshop in Dungeness, one of the most haunting and unique landscapes in the UK. Often described as “Britain’s only desert, ” this striking coastal setting offers a surreal mix of natural beauty and industrial elements -- an inspiring place to refine both your technical skills and creative eye.
You don’t need to be an expert to take part. With guidance drawn from decades of experience across film and digital photography, you’ll be supported in developing your approach while exploring this extraordinary location!
What to expect:
  • Use geometry and form to create strong, balanced compositions.
  • Explore long exposure techniques to create smooth, atmospheric seascapes.
  • See and compose in black and white, focusing on contrast and texture.
  • Capture narrative details that tell the story of the landscape.
  • Approach both wide scenes and smaller, characterful elements with intention.
  • Work with changing coastal light to maximise detail and dynamic range.
  • Develop a more thoughtful, considered way of photographing environments.
By the end of the day, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of how to approach landscape photography, along with a collection of images that reflect the unique atmosphere and character of Dungeness.

Bridging the Gap: Forty Years of Visual Storytelling
I have been taking pictures for over 40 years, starting my career in the film era. Using Pentax cameras you have to practice the art of "getting it right in-camera" long before the luxury of an LCD screen existed.
Along came digital and we all jumped ship, Nikon, Leica, Fujifilm, Sony, I have used many different systems along the way. Now of course most use a mixture of digital and film for their images.
I now run a series of meetups and classes teaching everything from Black & White, Landscapes, Architecture, Documentary story telling, Street and the very basics for beginners.
My teaching style is grounded in real-world experience in both film and digital—ensuring that my students learn not just how to operate a camera, but how to develop a lifelong "photographic eye."
The best way to learn is to do.
