Kintsugi originates in 15th-century Japan, during the Muromachi period. According to historical accounts, the shōgun Ashikaga Yoshimasa sent his broken tea bowl to China for repair. It returned reinforced with metal staples, prompting Japanese craftsmen to develop a more refined approach to repairing ceramics in a way that honoured the break rather than hiding it.Over time, Kintsugi evolved from a repair method into a philosophy: imperfections are not flaws, but part of an object’s story. In this workshop, we explore a modern interpretation of Kintsugi, applying its core principles to larger-scale ceramic pieces such as vases, generous bowls, and substantial plates. Working at this scale requires more patience, focus, and intention, making the process slower and more immersive. For this reason, the workshop runs for 2 hours, offering a deeper, more considered experience than introductory sessions.Participants can choose one of two options (both included, at no difference in price):
Bring a broken ceramic object from home to repair in the studio
Or select a larger ceramic piece provided by us, including vases and plates
This workshop is about repair rather than replacement, embracing imperfections, and giving broken objects a second life that is visible, thoughtful, and intentional.Pickup Policy:We’ll happily keep your creations for 7 days after your workshop so you have time to collect them. After that, we’ll need to recycle or dispose of them to make space for new work. How to find us:6A St. Joseph's Street, London, SW8 4DN* Please note that Kintsugi pieces are for decorative purposes only and should not be used for food or drink. Your piece will make a beautiful addition to your home or a unique holder for small treasures like jewellery. We have a strict 15-minute lateness policy. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time, your booking will be cancelled without a refund or reschedule. Please be mindful: Duende Lab hosts multiple workshops throughout the day. By purchasing a ticket for this session, you acknowledge that other classes may be taking place in the studio at the same time.

5/5 from Matthew Rees, attended Oct 2026: We had such a great experience during or Kintsugi class! Christina and Mariana were so good with us, everything was explained brilliantly and we were even given a brief history of the art style! Our pieces of art came out amazing and I would 100% recommend booking a session at Duende Lab. They have so much on offer, you really will find something for everyone!
5/5 from Yash Bheeroo, attended Sep 2026: Such a fantastic and memorable experience. Christina and Jules were brilliant teachers — incredibly patient, warm and encouraging throughout, which made the whole class so enjoyable. The atmosphere was perfect too. The music was fantastic, with such a brilliant set that really added to the experience. It was genuinely worth every penny and every minute. You come away not only with something you’ve created yourself, but with a really memorable experience as well. I would come back again without hesitation and couldn’t recommend the class highly enough!
5/5 from Tina Lipovec, attended Sep 2026: I had a wonderful time from start to finish. The selection of pottery was excellent, and the instructions were clear and patient, so I never felt rushed. A relaxing, creative experience. 10/10, and I'll definitely be back!
