Kintsugi originates in 15th-century Japan, during the Muromachi period. According to historical accounts, the shōgun Ashikaga Yoshimasa sent his broken tea bowl to China for repair. It returned reinforced with metal staples, prompting Japanese craftsmen to develop a more refined approach to repairing ceramics in a way that honoured the break rather than hiding it.
Over time, Kintsugi evolved from a repair method into a philosophy: imperfections are not flaws, but part of an object’s story.
In this workshop, we explore a modern interpretation of Kintsugi, applying its core principles to larger-scale ceramic pieces such as vases, generous bowls, and substantial plates. Working at this scale requires more patience, focus, and intention, making the process slower and more immersive.
For this reason, the workshop runs for 2 hours, offering a deeper, more considered experience than introductory sessions.
Participants can choose one of two options (both included, at no difference in price):
  • Bring a broken ceramic object from home to repair in the studio
  • Or select a larger ceramic piece provided by us, including vases and plates
This workshop is about repair rather than replacement, embracing imperfections, and giving broken objects a second life that is visible, thoughtful, and intentional.

We’ll happily keep your creations for 7 days after your workshop so you have time to collect them. After that, we’ll need to recycle or dispose of them to make space for new work.
