As far back as I can remember art has always been a passion of mine. I remember as a kid spending countless hours creating art, thinking it was the coolest thing ever! I knew from the jump that I was not cut out for a 9 to 5 job, despite my dad trying to convince me to do a typical Tamil job like a being a doctor, dentist or accountant. I wanted to see somebody that looked like me growing up in the arts, so I decided to become a rebel and pursued art at GCSE right through to degree level. It was at uni where my lecturer said to me I think you would be good at teaching. I thought why not teaching. I have spent over 20 years being an art educator, entertainer, comedian, social worker and professional parrot. I love nothing more than sharing my passion for art inspiring others.
Art for me is so much more than just teaching art. At the heart of it I love that I have the ability to empower humanity through creativity. I use art as a tool for change. I have spent over 20 years transforming lives, enabling and encouraging creative thinking and risk taking. I live for the light bulb moment, the look one kids faces when they master a technique or skill. Watching their confidence and ability grow is what has kept me in the art studio for so long.
Alongside teaching I am a practicing artist which has kept my creative juices flowing. I have decided that it is time to make a difference beyond the classroom. My mission is to enhance people’s lives through fun art education and creative experiences. I am combining my wealth of experience and knowledge of being an art educator and artist. The ethos behind Gee Jay Arts is to connect, collaborate and create. To work within the community and alongside charities to deliver bespoke workshops and courses that not only feed the artistic soul, but the mind and emotional well being too.
