What you'll do

Looking for a fun way to earn your Duke of Edinburgh gold? This residential cooking course is the perfect way to complete your DofE Gold Residential while learning an important life skill with delicious benefits.

As a Duke of Edinburgh AAP (Approved Activity Provider), The Avenue Cookery School in London has been running these courses since 2004 — so you can rest assured that you'll be in safe, flour-covered hands.

Whether you're a truly hopeless cook or know your way around the kitchen, come along and pick up expert tips and tricks of the trade that will make you the master of any kitchen.

From learning how to cook up budget-friendly meals, avoid food waste and get creative (without needing a cookbook!), this cooking course will teach you a mountain of transferable skills for life.

Each day will begin with fun demonstrations followed by independent cooking using the skills and techniques learned. Then it will be time to enjoy the fruits of your labour as you tuck into a delicious two-course lunch before a final demonstration and cooking session.

This cooking course is full of hands-on foodie fun and will teach you new skills and recipes as you continue to practice those learnt the day before. During the evening, you can enjoy a selection of activities chosen by you and the other students — this could be anything from tennis to cosying up for popcorn and a movie!

By the end of this social, fun and food-filled cooking course, you will be full to the brim with expert culinary knowledge and ready to tackle any kitchen!

Course timings

Monday – Thursday 9am – 5pm (lunch included)
Friday 9am – 4pm (breakfast and lunch included)

Accommodation:

You will be staying at a family-run B&B. Rooms will be separated by male or female shared rooms.
A guaranteed private room can be arranged at an extra cost. There is also an option for those who live further afield to have 5 nights’ accommodation, enabling you to arrive on the Sunday evening. Please contact The Avenue Cookery School to arrange these options.
Breakfast and dinner will be provided every morning and evening from Monday. If you are staying Sunday night you will need to eat before you arrive.

Please note:
This course caters to vegetarian, LF and GF dietary requirements on request, but time restraints mean meal alternatives will not be covered in the demonstrations.
