This short day class will introduce how to string jewellery using traditional knotting skills, learning from an experienced jeweller who has been teaching jewellery making since 2009.
Knotted necklaces / bracelets give a different feel to regular stringing and this technique is traditional for more expensive pearls and gemstones, for added strength and protection for the beads. This knotting (as in this class) is a different technique from more standard bead stringing.
If you are interested in this course, some basic bead jewellery / basic bead stringing skills are useful first before attempting knotting, as this is a more complex technique.
Students will each create a pair of fully knotted pearl / gemstone bracelets - you will learn how to choose and plan out their beads, then select the appropriate thread, how to create and tighten their knots, and of course how to securely attach clasps and finish the jewellery to a professional standard.
We make two bracelets during the session, rather than a necklace, as this gives more practise in starting and finishing the process - the overall process is the same for both bracelets and necklaces.
Class size - maximum of just 2 people
Class runs from 10am to 2.30pm (with a half-hour break)
Great for a girls' day out or a special treat for a celebration for a crafty or bead-loving friend, but also great for hobby or professional jewellers looking to expand their range of skills - the small class size allows a flexible approach and plenty of time for individual questions and support.
Unfortunately, the workshop space is not fully accessible, so if you have mobility issues, do get in touch before booking.
What you'll get
You will leave with a pair of bracelets made to your own design with your choice of gemstone or pearl beads and sterling silver clasps.
Knowledge required
Recommended for those who already have some basic bead stringing skills.
What to bring
If you wear glasses for close work or reading, do bring them with you!
