Sculptural Willow Animal Weaving Workshop

Immerse yourself in the wonderful rhythm of weaving in this class in London.

6 hours Location Abbey Wood Class size 1 to 6 guests   £95

Discover the calming, hands-on craft of willow weaving in this inspiring outdoor workshop held at The Clearing, a purpose-built creative space in the heart of Lesnes Abbey Woods in London. Surrounded by nature and kept warm and dry beneath a large parachute canopy and around an open fire, you’ll have the perfect setting to settle into the gentle rhythm of weaving.
This workshop is completely beginner friendly. You’ll start by exploring willow in both its dry and wet states, learning how it moves, bends, and behaves before trying out simple techniques to shape and manipulate it with confidence.
What to expect:
  • Learn to handle willow in wet and dry forms, building up the basics of bending, shaping, and weaving.
  • Create your own willow animal sculpture -- a smaller piece on your own, or a larger, more ambitious design if you’re attending as a family or group (just ensure it fits in your vehicle!).
  • Discover how Creative Nature supports local community groups and schools through collaborative willow artworks.
  • Enjoy a cosy, welcoming outdoor workspace with an open fire, full shelter, and all protective equipment provided.
By the end of the session, you’ll head home with new skills, a unique willow creation, and the warm glow that comes from creativity, fresh air, and shared making.

  • 5/5 from Fiona Kettley, attended May 2026: Stephen, Xavier and Holly were all amazing! Particularly Stephen who ran the course, was so talented, kind, encouraging and was so funny had us in stitches for the whole day! When we arrived he showed us ref pictures of what other 1st timers had made I thought - no way! But every one of us created something to be proud of! My to tips - definitely do it but take a kneeling pad if you have one! Big thanks to the team! I made an almost life sized Galapagos saddleback tortoise and have named him Dave in honour of Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday weekend.

  • 5/5 from Kay, attended Jan 2022: FANTASTIC, I really enjoyed it. Stephen was great, full of fun knowledge and all round good egg. It was easy to find and loads of parking, We did take our own food but we got a very nice hot meal next door, but I dont know if this is always open? There is a kettle so if you what to take your own milk and coffee/tea its not a problem, I can home with a wonderful creature a cross between a sheep and a deer . But I love him. I would go age because I would like more creatures to go with the one I have. Thank you Stephen, hope to see you again. Kay x

We are a nonprofit organisation based in SE London, offering wellbeing and bushcraft opportunities, we can be found in two locations, the first is our indoor space we call Creative Nature HQ located at Thames-side-studios by the river Thames and the second space is called The Clearing, an outdoor space set in the woods at Lesnes Abbey Woods.
We began in 2016, exploring an alternative way to express our creativity that looked to develop deeper connections with nature within the city. At the centre of our practice is love, generosity, humour, connection and balance. For us this is a daily practice, and we have been co creating opportunities for people to join us and experience it for themselves.
We work all year round outside in the woods and have created a space that has reached a new chapter in our story. The Clearing has taken us four years to vision, build, develop relationships with Bexley Council the land managers, fundraise, design, gain permissions and finally we opened this space September 2024! A real milestone for a tiny organisation of one paid member of staff and a beautiful network of volunteers and supporters.
Our vision holder and navigator of this organisation is Stephen Stockbridge, an artist with over 35 years of experience, building, making and creating both permanent and temporary work that has engaged and delighted participants, here and around the world.
We invite you to go beyond the transactional society we move in every day and ask you to step into a more open hearted playful space where learning and joy is as easy as breathing.
We look forward to meeting you.
