Discover the magic of natural colour in this hands-on introduction to plant-based inks, dyes, and print pastes. You'll learn how to extract vibrant hues from plants and food waste – turning what might otherwise be discarded into something beautiful and creative.
Throughout the workshop, we'll guide you step by step through the entire journey. You'll start by foraging plants for colour, discovering which botanicals give you the most stunning results. Then you'll prepare fabrics and papers, ready to become your canvas. You'll experiment with colour pH – exploring how a simple change can shift a pale pink into a deep burgundy – and watch as chemistry and creativity come together in the most satisfying way.
By the end, you'll have hands-on experience creating your own dyes and inks using naturally derived pigments. You'll understand the processes, feel confident experimenting further at home, and leave with finished pieces you've created yourself – whether that's dyed fabric, printed papers, or coloured inks ready to use again and again.
This is genuinely low-pressure and completely beginner-friendly. No prior experience needed whatsoever – we provide all the equipment, and our teacher will walk you through each stage at a pace that feels comfortable. It's a wonderfully mindful way to connect with nature, get creative, and discover how much colour is hiding in the plants and scraps all around us.
You'll walk away with new skills, finished creations, and a whole new way of seeing the world around you.
