Join us to learn how to craft intricate maps, invent unique creatures, design engaging characters, and construct immersive environments. This workshop blends drawing skills with storytelling and worldbuilding, empowering budding artists to bring their visions to life.
Don't worry if you're new to drawing or world creation, as this course is designed for beginners, offering guidance and creative prompts every step of the way. Over six weeks, with one class per week lasting two hours, you'll delve deep into your creativity and develop a complete mini-world to take home.
  • Discover your world's concept and sketch a detailed map, from continents to hidden kingdoms, adding imaginative elements like floating islands and volcanoes.
  • Learn to sketch various environments like forests, mountains, and underwater areas, bringing them to life with shading and colour pencils.
  • Let your imagination run wild as you invent fantasy creatures inspired by real animals, focusing on anatomy, texture, and expressive features.
  • Design a range of characters from heroes to villains, adding personality through facial expressions, poses, and costume designs.
  • Create intricate structures like castles and temples, alongside objects such as weapons and relics, experimenting with shapes and materials.
By the end of the course, you'll consolidate all your creations into a final project, showcasing your world map, key locations, creatures, and characters. Whether you create a poster, booklet, or large illustrated sheet, you'll leave with a tangible memento of your imaginative journey.
Weekly Breakdown:
Week 1: World Concept & Map Making
  • Brainstorm: What kind of world is it? (magical, futuristic, natural, etc.)
  • Draw a simple map (continents, islands, cities, landmarks)
  • Add creative details (floating islands, volcanoes, hidden kingdoms)
Week 2: Environments & Landscapes
  • Learn how to sketch forests, mountains, deserts, underwater areas, etc.
  • Choose 2–3 environments from their map and draw detailed scenes
  • Introduce atmosphere and mood through shading and colour pencils (optional)
Week 3: Fantasy Creatures & Animals
  • Invent creatures that live in the world (dragons, hybrids, mythical beasts)
  • Study real animals to mix features
  • Focus on anatomy, texture, and expressive features
Week 4: People & Characters
  • Design inhabitants (heroes, villains, royalty, villagers)
  • Learn simple character drawing and costume design
  • Add personality through facial expressions and poses
Week 5: Structures & Artifacts
  • Create architecture (castles, towers, temples) and objects (weapons, relics)
  • Explore shapes and materials
  • Optional intro to perspective drawing for buildings
Week 6: Final World Showcase Project
  • Combine all elements into a presentation: world map, key places, creatures, and characters
  • Create a poster, booklet, or large illustrated sheet
  • Group share and celebration of each student’s world
