5 x 3 hours Class size 1 to 12 guests       £199 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Explore three distinctive printmaking processes — monoprint, collagraph and drypoint — in this practical 5-week Introduction to Printmaking course.
Guided by printmaker and tutor Caroline Elliott, you’ll discover how each process works, the different visual qualities it can produce and how printmaking can be used to develop your own ideas and artwork. The course combines technical instruction with experimentation, allowing you to explore different approaches while building confidence with printmaking tools, materials and processes.
Monoprint introduces an immediate, painterly approach to printmaking. Working on smooth plates, you’ll explore drawing, painting and mark-making to create unique, one-off prints.
Collagraph introduces both relief and intaglio approaches, allowing you to experiment with textured surfaces, varied marks and different ways of transferring an image through print.
Drypoint involves drawing directly into a plate, creating expressive marks and characteristic rich, velvety lines when the plate is inked and printed.
As the course develops, you’ll also explore how different printmaking processes can be combined and overlaid, opening up further possibilities for developing images and experimenting with your own visual ideas.
The course is suitable for complete beginners and those with previous art or printmaking experience. It is also particularly relevant to practising artists working in other disciplines who would like to explore how their existing work and ideas can be translated into print.
By the end of the five weeks, you’ll have developed a practical understanding of monoprint, collagraph and drypoint, greater confidence using printmaking processes and a broader understanding of how printmaking can become part of your own creative practice.
