In this captivating workshop, you'll learn how to create delicate wire flower seed head stems inspired by nature's intricate beauty. You'll craft a stunning bunch of stems to display at home, drawing inspiration from real seed heads such as cow parsley, honesty and grasses. This hands-on activity will teach you various techniques using different gauges of wire and specialised tools to bring your botanical creations to life.
Don't worry if you've never tried wirework before – this class is designed to gently guide you through the process. You'll discover how absorbing and meditative the act of shaping wire can be, allowing you to forget the stresses of everyday life for a while. As you work, you'll find yourself becoming more confident with each stem you create.
Throughout the workshop, you'll explore different techniques for crafting various seed heads and floral forms. You'll learn how to:
  • Manipulate wire to create delicate, lifelike structures
  • Combine different gauges of wire for added depth and texture
  • Replicate the intricate details of real seed heads and flowers
  • Arrange your stems for a beautiful, natural-looking display
As you immerse yourself in this creative process, you may find time slipping away, replaced by a sense of calm focus and artistic fulfilment. By the end of the class, you'll not only have a lovely bunch of handcrafted wire stems to take home but also the skills and inspiration to continue creating your own botanical wire art.

I'm Judith and I'm a designer maker and workshop tutor based in Leek, on the edge of the Peak District.
Twenty years ago I started playing with wire and applying some of the techniques and ideas that I had developed on my degree course in Embroidery. In my twenty years as a maker I have honed my wire work techniques and I make a variety of wire jewellery and decorative wire flowers that I sell through galleries and contemporary craft events. I work from my studio above a quirky cafe. I have lots of teaching experience and have been running my own workshops from my studio and other venues since 2019.
I am inspired by nature, and many of my ideas have been developed from observing and photgraphing wildflowers on walks around the Peak District.
I love teaching and sharing my passion for making and knowledge with others.
I can't wait to see what you will create!
