What you'll do
Spend three immersive days in a sword forging masterclass in London and create your own custom short sword, a striking decorative piece crafted to a design or style entirely of your choosing. You'll forge a blade around 500–650mm long with a double-bevelled edge and a fuller down the middle, then craft a forged crossguard and pommel, and fit a wooden handle – creating a complete, beautifully finished sword that's truly your own.This is an intensive three-day experience where you'll move through the build with focus and care, learning the skills needed to work at this level of craftsmanship.Day One
- Introductions and course overview
- Forge safety and PPE for all participants
- Initial sword design and materials gathering
- Forging the blade and adding fuller
- Profile grinding the blade
- Initial blade bevel grinding and tang shaping
- Forging the crossguard and pommel
- Normalisation and heat treatment of metal parts
- Final blade bevel grinding
- Blade hand sanding and finishing
- Crossguard and pommel finishing
- Handle selection, shaping, sanding and finishing
- Blade construction and finalisation
- Course wrap-up
- Each day will begin at 1000 and run until approximately 1600.
- Due to space and safety issues, spectators are not permitted on these courses.
- The age limit for attendance on any course involving the forging and making of knives or axes is 18+. There are no exceptions to this rule, and ID verification may be requested prior to course commencement if the participant looks under 21.
