Camden Lock Street Market: Photography Workshop

Urban Energy • Street Culture • Colour • Movement • Architecture

2 hours Class size 1 to 5 guests       £22

This dynamic street photography workshop is designed for urban explorers, street culture lovers, and visual storytellers who want to capture the raw energy, colour, and character of Camden Market using their iPhone or smartphone.
The focus of this workshop is the living street environment. So we want to look out for
— vibrant crowds, bold colours, street performers, textures, signage, market stalls, architecture, graffiti, movement, and visual chaos.
We will explore the market as a living visual ecosystem.
This is not a controlled environment
— it’s fast, unpredictable, loud, and alive.
Everything becomes a subject: people, details, architecture, patterns, reflections, motion, contrast, and atmosphere.
The workshop is built around urban storytelling, capturing moments, energy, and rhythm rather than posed scenes.
Alongside technical photography skills, you will learn:
  • how to work creatively with street light, shadow, movement, mood, and colour, while mastering camera settings (for people who bring a camera), composition techniques, and photography tools.
  • This workshop is for both, camera and or smartphone users.

Recent reviews of Camden Lock Street Market: Photography Workshop

  • 4/5 from Peter Crane, attended Oct 2026: The 2 hour session went ok, however as an experienced street photographer always looking for new ideas maybe this was a bit basic for me and would rather suit entry level/beginners of Street Photography. On the plus side I felt that Sybille allowed me to have the freedom to do my own thing during the 2 hour session.
  • 1/5 from Komal Bhudia, attended Oct 2026: I booked this workshop to actually learn something. Instead, I paid to watch a woman walk around Camden Market taking photos for herself. That's it. That was the workshop. I also want to address her claim that I was 25 minutes late. I was 6 minutes late due to train delays, and I messaged her in advance. She replied confirming she was fine to wait as there were only two attendees. When I arrived at the station, I couldn't locate her, and her instructions on where she was were unclear — which wasted further time. She even acknowledged this herself by saying, "I know it's hard to find someone when you haven't seen them before." I left after an hour because in that entire hour, no teaching took place. The other attendee agreed and confirmed afterwards that nothing was taught and the session continued in the same way after I left. I have something to compare this to — I have previously taken a top-rated photography course on this platform, so I know exactly what a good photography workshop looks like. This was not one. She took us around Camden to different spots like we were primary school kids. Her one and only piece of "instruction" for the entire session was to try and photograph one colour. That was it. It was pointless — there was no depth, no context, no explanation of why or how it would improve our photography. She offered nothing beyond that. In fact, I was the one who suggested the orange juice stand as a spot to photograph. There was no teaching. No structure. No technique. No feedback. No camera settings. No composition guidance. No review of our images. Nothing that was promised in the description was delivered. Her one and only piece of "instruction" was to choose a colour and photograph only that colour. That's not a workshop. That's a children's game. She spent the entire session doing her own photography like a tourist, while I and one other attendee stood around wondering why we had paid for this. When the other attendee showed her his work, she openly admitted she doesn't shoot at that level. So she's charging people to teach something she can't do herself. Make that make sense. The other attendee and I spoke privately and both agreed we had learned absolutely nothing. Not one thing. We were both there to improve, and we left with less than we came with — minus the money. She also spent time complaining about her personal life, which had nothing to do with photography and made an already awkward experience deeply unprofessional. This wasn't a workshop. It was an insult. I paid to be taught and instead I was ignored while she built her own "portfolio." If I wanted to watch someone take photos, I could have done that for free on YouTube. Do not book this. Save your money. You will learn more from a 10-minute video than you will from this.

Hi, I’m Sybille — photographer, artist, writer, and art director. For over 15 years, I’ve been working at the intersection of photography, art, and creative writing, developing projects that combine strong visual language with a deeply narrative approach. My background in photography and digital environments and my collaborative project management skills allow me to guide creative processes with clarity, sensitivity, and structure. I like to work with small, carefully curated groups. This intimate setting creates a space of trust, focus, and genuine exchange — where every voice is heard and every perspective matters.
If you’re curious about exploring your own visual language, uncovering personal narratives, or would like to experiment with photography as a form of self-discovery in free style with little guidance, then the workshops are for you.
Together we explore urban narratives, create visual essays, engage in storytelling workshops, and develop meaningful projects. This is not about perfection. It’s about seeing differently, expressing honestly, and discovering new layers of creativity in a supportive and inspiring environment. If you feel drawn to explore — I’d love to welcome you to join in.
