Step away from the usual pace of work and spend time making together in a contemporary ceramics studio.
These private, two-hour sessions offer workplace groups a direct, hands-on introduction to clay within an active, contemporary working studio.
Guided by a practising ceramic artist, our sessions balance a relaxed, social atmosphere with real technical intent. You’ll get your hands dirty learning core construction techniques, shaping raw clay into functional pieces of stoneware entirely from scratch. No previous experience is required; sessions are perfectly suitable for complete beginners while remaining deeply engaging for those with prior experience.
When booking, you can choose from three distinct workshop formats depending on your group size:
1. Hand-Building Only (Up to 10 people)
Gather around the studio table to learn core hand-building techniques including pinching, coiling, and slab construction. You’ll design and sculpt a unique cup, vase, or plant pot, focusing on surface textures and organic forms.
2. Wheel Throwing and Hand-Building Split (Up to 8 people)
A lively split session that offers the best of both worlds. Your team will divide their time between hand-building at the communal table and learning the basics of centring and pulling clay on the potter’s wheels.
3. Wheel Throwing Only (Up to 4 people)
A highly focused, intimate introduction dedicated entirely to learning the fundamentals of throwing on the potter's wheel.
Following your session, all pieces will be dried, glazed, and fired twice by our studio technician. They will be ready for you to collect from the studio within 2 to 3 weeks.

SET Ceramics

SET Ceramics is a contemporary community pottery studio in central London, run by arts organisation and registered charity SET. Based in a former cobbler’s shop near Fenchurch Street Station, the space functions as both a working ceramics studio for members and an artist-led learning environment.
Alongside studio memberships for practising makers, we offer courses, private classes and team workshops led by working ceramic artists. Each programme is shaped by the tutor’s own practice, giving participants insight into real studio approaches rather than standardised pottery classes.
Sessions are small (typically 4-6 people) to allow focused guidance, experimentation, and the development of individual ideas. With pottery wheels, hand-building stations, glazing facilities and kiln firing included, the emphasis is on meaningful making and building confidence with clay.
SET Ceramics welcomes beginners, independent makers, and artists looking to work within a supportive and creative studio community.
