Coffee Masterclass

Join us for an intro into coffee making in London!

2.5 hours

Class size 1 to 12 (public classes), 2 to 4
  £50

This intensive two-hour coffee making course in London takes you through the full journey of coffee -- from raw green beans to the finished cup. You'll learn to evaluate green coffee, observe and understand the roasting process, and master the fundamentals of extraction and brewing. The session concludes with a comparative tasting and the award of the Introduction to Coffee diploma.
No previous coffee experience is needed! You'll explore the journey from seed to cup through hands-on activities, live demonstrations, and guided tastings.
You'll learn:
  • Green coffee analysis, including Arabica vs. Robusta, coffee origins, and processing methods.
  • How to identify common green coffee defects and understand speciality coffee grading.
  • Roast theory, including drying, Maillard reactions, first crack, development time, and roast levels.
  • A live roasting demonstration, following the coffee from charge to drop.
  • Brewing fundamentals, including grind size, brew ratios, water temperature, extraction, and water quality.
  • Hands-on brewing using a V60 or cafetière.
  • Comparative tasting to explore how origin, processing, roasting, and brewing influence flavour.
The workshop finishes with a recap, Q&A, and presentation of your Introduction to Coffee by Coffee Centre London diploma.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to identify the major green coffee origins and processing methods, recognise common green defects, describe the key stages and chemistry of a roast, explain the core variables of extraction, and brew a balanced cup using at least one manual method.

Recent reviews of Coffee Masterclass

  • 5/5 from Steve Connor, attended Oct 2026: As a long time coffee lover, I found the ‘Intro to Coffee’ course super interesting and fun. We covered a bean’s journey from plant to cup and throughout the course Julian and Bartosz shared their extensive knowledge and experience, answering all my questions and exploding the myths I’d held dear for years! I came away ‘buzzing’ in a good way, feeling enlightened and excited by the prospect of trying out new coffee varieties and using different brewing methods. Thanks again guys….and Bartosz keep baking them pastries!
  • 5/5 from Sienna Beekmeyer, attended Sep 2026: I had a course on Thursday, it was a great experience. Highly recommend, thanks so much!
  • 5/5 from Ray Sadri-Casely, attended Aug 2026: Absolutely amazing. As someone who loves coffee and wanted to gain a deeper understanding of origin, processing, roasting and extraction this was ideal. Great facilities and very hands on. The time just flew by. Highly recommended.
