This class is for sewing beginners who are looking for the next step. In this class, you'll be guided through the process of making a lined pouch with a zip by your experienced tutor, Alice Holloway.
During this class, you can expect to learn:
  • Using a pattern for cutting fabric accurately
  • Sewing in a zip using a zipper foot
  • Attaching a lining
  • Bagging out, turning through, and finishing lined items
If you've never sewn with a silky fabric, this is a good chance to try sewing a silky lining under guidance from your tutor.
The Remakery is committed to Ecological Craft; we encourage workshop attendees to only use natural fibre materials (cotton, linen, silk, wool) that can be part of a circular system. A cotton zip will be provided for you to complete your pouch.
Materials:
Scrap fabric will be available to sew a mini pouch. If you'd like to sew the larger pouch, please bring two pieces of cotton or linen fabric 50x30 cm, one 'heavy weight' (cotton drill, curtain fabric, etc.) for the outer and one 'lighter weight' (cotton poplin, cotton muslin, or duvet cover fabric) for the lining.
If you're happy with a contrasting colour of thread, then we will have thread available. If you'd prefer a matching thread, please bring a cotton thread that matches your fabric.
The Remakery is committed to making Ecological Craft more accessible to the community. All our Thursday classes are subsidised to make them affordable and guarantee an income for local ecological practitioners.
For this class, we have two 50% discount codes available. These codes are aimed at people who face financial barriers to taking part, particularly if you're under 25 or unwaged. Please message us if you’d like to benefit from this offer. Alternatively, you could try our Friday Morning Alterations and Upcycling workshop, which has £15 tickets.
‘True Cost ticket’ allows us to pay a fair wage to the practitioners so that they can sustain themselves and their ecological research and development.
‘Pay It Forward Ticket’ includes a donation towards Remakery running costs.
We appreciate the support of all the local crafters out there who come to try something new and meet like-minded people.
Please note: due to our accessible pricing and the high admin cost of rearranging classes, we don't offer refunds or reschedules for this class.

The Remakery started 10 years ago as a community space for repairing and upcycling furniture.
Since then we have developed several communal workshops for a range of eco-craft activities, and an exciting programme to link climate action with the empowerment of making with your hands.
Our practitioners have trained at London's top Arts schools, or developed their skills over years of self-discovery.
Our programme is curated by Alice Holloway; A researcher in regenerative fashion with The RCA and London Met university, and Innovate Creative Catalyst grant winning regenerative fashion designer.
The skills we share at the Remakery are proven to improve mental health, as well as change how class attendees see the world. We want everyone to feel empowered to make a difference, and we have seen how learning to make something is often in the first step towards changing something bigger.
