Hi, I’m Grant — a jeweller, silversmith, and Senior Lecturer with over 20 years’ experience in making and teaching. I first fell in love with metal at Glasgow School of Art, where I graduated with First Class Honours, before completing my MA at the Royal College of Art. Since then, I’ve been fascinated by the way metal can hold gesture, memory, and narrative.
Teaching is a huge part of my practice. At the University for the Creative Arts, I’ve taught across BA and MA levels for more than a decade, helping students build confidence, develop technical skill, and discover their creative voice. I’ve also taught in community settings and internationally, including specialist silversmithing training in Bogotá, where students went on to establish their own studios.
My own work focuses on narrative jewellery and the physicality of making. I’m based at Cockpit Arts in London, and my pieces are held in major public collections such as Goldsmiths’ Hall, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Birmingham Museums, the National Museums of Scotland, and the Scottish Parliament. I’m also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a QEST Scholar, with collaborations spanning the V&A, Crafts Council, British Museum, and Craft Study Centre.
In my workshops, I aim to create a relaxed, encouraging environment where beginners are welcomed and supported. I guide people step by step — from sawing and forming to soldering and finishing — so they leave with a piece they’re proud of and the joy of having made it themselves.
I look forward to making something meaningful with you.
— Grant
