Spend a full day at the wheel in this immersive introduction to spinning yarn. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn the entire process – from preparing wool fibre to spinning, plying, and finishing your own handspun yarn. It’s the perfect way to dive into the craft, with plenty of time to build skills, ask questions, and enjoy the calming rhythm of the spinning wheel.
We’ll start with an introduction to different types of spinning wheels and how they work. Then you’ll prepare fibre for spinning using carders and combs, learning how to align wool for smooth, even results.
You’ll be guided through drafting techniques, controlling twist, and spinning singles – all at your own pace and with lots of support. Finally, you’ll learn how to ply your yarn and wind it into a skein, ready for knitting, crocheting, or admiring!
This class is perfect for anyone who wants to understand the process behind yarn, build a solid spinning foundation, or simply try something new and meditative with their hands.
