Class size 1 to 4 (public classes), 2 to 3
£90 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

In this wheel throwing taster workshop, you will be taught the fundamental techniques of throwing on the potter’s wheel, which include wedging, centring, pulling up and forming the clay with your hands and tools. Through expert demonstration and personalised guidance, you will be supported to create a cup, bowl and pourer. This immersive workshop will give you an authentic experience of learning the craft of pottery in a fully creative and supportive environment. To complete the set of three objects, you will choose your own colour scheme from a selection of the studio’s glazes.
All levels of ability are welcome. This workshop is a great introduction to hand-building while also giving students with more experience opportunities to build on their existing skills. The session is suitable for adults of 18 years and above.
What you'll get
On this course you’ll make two pots to have glazed and fired in the kiln. Your glazed work will be ready for collection from the studio three weeks later.
You will be taught in Rachel Cox’s modern studio with the latest ceramic tools and equipment in a small group of up to 2 students. Small groups ensure greater individual focus from your teacher and higher levels of student and teacher group engagement. You will have access to a range of clays, slips and glazes and an apron will be provided. Your pottery will be fired twice in an electric kiln up to temperatures of 1260 degrees. There is a bike lock up and private parking onsite available to students.
Knowledge required
No previous experience required.
What to bring
The studio will provide you with an apron, however clay is an inherently messy material so please wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dusty. We also ask for long hair to be tied back and long nails to be cut.
