Sumo Robot Workshop

ere we have a meetup for building and programming a Sumo robot. It includes a LEGO build from instructions, then a creative part of adding your own weapon, and then programming it to fight other robots. 2.5 hours of fun that felt like 10 minutes.

Join a hands-on robotics workshop in London that turns engineering into pure play. Led by a professional controls engineer and lifelong LEGO® fan, this session brings together building, coding, and friendly competition using the iconic LEGO Mindstorms EV3 kits.
Everything is explained as you go, and the vibe is relaxed, playful, and welcoming. If you’re curious about robots, enjoy problem-solving, or just like making cool things, you’ll feel right at home. Perfect for children 8+ and adults alike.
What to expect:
  • Building a base Sumo robot step by step using LEGO Mindstorms EV3.
  • Getting creative by adding your own attachments or “weapons”.
  • Learning simple programming to control how your robot moves and reacts.
  • Testing your build in fun Sumo-style robot battles.
  • Around 2.5 hours of building, tinkering, experimenting, and laughing.
You’ll leave with hands-on experience in robotics and coding, a real sense of achievement from seeing your robot come to life, and that buzz you get from learning through play. It’s energetic, welcoming, and seriously fun -- especially if the idea of robots battling it out makes you smile.

Mateusz was fantastic. he explained everything clearly and made the whole session engaging and easy to follow, even for those of us without any robotics background. The Lego kits were perfectly prepared, the instructions were very well organised, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Mateusz also helped us with setting up the robots and made sure everyone was involved and enjoying the process. The highlight was definitely the robot fight at the end, so much fun and lots of laughs! I highly recommend this workshop for any group activity, team-building event, or even just something different and exciting to try with friends. We had a brilliant time!

Hi! I’m a controls engineer who’s trying to turn a lifelong passion for LEGO® and robotics into a small business. My journey really took off after I won an eBay auction that came with a huge lot of LEGO Mindstorms EV3 kits — honestly one of the coolest and most iconic things LEGO ever made (and sadly will probably never make again). That win felt like fate, and it pushed me to start teaching and sharing EV3 with others.
I love turning technical concepts into play — building bots, coding in Python, making them fight, play guitar, or do weird creative stuff. I’m not just doing this as a hobby; I’m actively trying to build a business around it because I genuinely believe robotics should be fun, social, and accessible. If you’re curious about robots or just want to build cool stuff, I’d love to teach you.
