Want to get the most out of your sewing machine but don’t know where to start? In this private, at-home lesson, you’ll learn to use your own machine with confidence, step by step.
I’ll travel to your home in central London, bringing my years of sewing and teaching experience to your own creative space. Together, we’ll cover:
  • How to set up and thread your machine
  • Understanding stitches, tension, and basic troubleshooting
  • Safe, smooth sewing techniques
  • A simple project (or your own project) to put your new skills into practice
Because you’ll be learning on your own machine, everything you discover will be immediately useful. No confusion, no guessing — just clear, hands-on guidance so you can keep sewing long after I leave.
Whether you’re a total beginner or just need a confidence boost, this relaxed, friendly session is all about you. You choose the pace, the project, and the questions — I’ll adapt to what you want to achieve.
All you need is your machine and a bit of space — I’ll bring the know-how, patience, and plenty of insider tips from years of running Petit Citron, a popular sewing community helping thousands learn to sew.
Ready to finally feel at ease with your sewing machine? Let’s make it happen — right at your kitchen table!
What you'll get
  • Personalised, one-on-one tuition — all questions answered, at your pace.
  • Expert guidance on your own sewing machine (no need to learn twice!).
  • Step-by-step instructions for threading, stitches, tension, and troubleshooting.
  • A small sewing project (or support with your own project) to practise new skills.
  • Confidence to use your machine independently after the lesson.
Knowledge required
None — this class is perfect for absolute beginners. If you’ve never threaded a sewing machine before, we’ll start from scratch. If you’ve done a little sewing already, we can build on what you know and focus on troubleshooting or a specific project. Every lesson is tailored to your skill level — no previous experience needed.
What to bring
  • Your sewing machine (set up where we’ll work).
  • The power cord, foot pedal, and any accessories it came with (bobbins, presser feet, needles).
  • A small selection of fabric scraps (we can use these for testing stitches).
  • Any current sewing project you’d like help with (optional).
  • A flat, well-lit surface with a power outlet nearby (a kitchen or dining table works well).
  • A notebook and pen, if you’d like to jot down tips.
  • Your machine’s instruction manual (if you have it) — makes troubleshooting easier.

I discovered sewing when I was a child, I wanted to create clothes for my fashion dolls and then, I sewed for myself. What started with simple garments soon became a lifelong passion. Over the years, I’ve explored everything from dressmaking and alterations to upcycling and creative, sustainable fashion. For me, sewing isn’t just a skill — it’s a way to express creativity, problem-solve, and slow down in a busy world.
I love teaching because I like to transmit my knowledge and also it’s very rewarding to see the smile when my "pupils" realise they can make something beautiful with their own hands. Whether it’s helping a complete beginner thread their first machine, or guiding someone through a tricky project, I enjoy creating a calm, encouraging environment where learning feels inspiring rather than intimidating.
Alongside my classes, I run Petit Citron — a well-known French sewing community that has helped thousands of people learn to sew through tutorials, ebooks, and patterns. My work has been featured in magazines, and I’ve collaborated with publications like Larousse and Modes & Travaux to create accessible, stylish projects. With more than a decade of experience, I’ve taught everyone from solo beginners to groups of children.
Something many people don’t know? Sewing is full of little secrets — from techniques that instantly improve a finish, to clever ways to recycle and restyle garments. I love sharing those tips that make students say, “Why didn’t I learn this sooner?”
If you’re curious, creative, or just want to try something new, come join me. Whether you dream of making your own clothes, repairing what you already have, or simply enjoying a relaxing new hobby, I’d be delighted to guide you on your sewing journey.
