Join this street photography class in London and discover how to capture the beautiful chaos of the Southbank. From the rhythmic movement of skaters to the shifting river light, you'll explore one of the city's most vibrant stretches while learning to see the world through a new lens.
The session begins outside the National Theatre with a short briefing where you'll chat about what you'd like to focus on, whether that's sharpening your technique or building your confidence. Because every group is different, the class naturally shapes itself around your personal goals. You'll spend two hours wandering together, learning how to read a scene before you even raise your camera and finding perfect compositions in the middle of a busy crowd. Your teacher will guide you through the ethics of candid photography and show you how to work with available light to create images that tell a story.
During this hands-on workshop, you will explore:
  • Reading light and shadow outdoors – Learn to use natural light to add depth to your photos.
  • Composition on the move – Find balance and focus in fast-paced environments.
  • Ethical candid moments – Gain the confidence to approach strangers and scenes with respect.
  • Camera settings for street scenes – Master the technical side of capturing movement.
  • Developing your visual instinct – Discover how to spot unique moments that others might miss.
Whether you're a complete beginner or a curious improver, this experience is designed to be low-pressure and social. You'll finish the session with a review of your shots, giving you a chance to see what worked and how to keep growing your skills. You'll walk away with a fresh perspective on the city and the self-assurance to continue documenting life on the streets long after the class ends.
Please note: You should bring along a DSLR, mirrorless, or film camera with a fully charged battery. As we will be walking outdoors, please wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.

FAQ

Can I come alone?
Absolutely, solo bookings are very welcome. Street photography is a wonderfully individual pursuit and you'll fit right in.
What if the weather is bad?
A bit of London drizzle actually makes for beautiful street photography! In the case of severe weather I'll be in touch to reschedule.
Will we be photographing strangers?
We'll talk through the ethics and etiquette of street photography in the briefing, it's one of the most interesting parts of the genre and nothing to be nervous about.

National Theatre, London, UK - London SE1 9PX

We meet outside the National Theatre on the Southbank, SE1 9PX. It's a 5-minute walk from Waterloo station — exit via the South Bank/Waterloo Road exit and follow the river. Blackfriars and Embankment stations are also within easy walking distance.

Gulia was a great tutor and was very helpful in giving hints and tips in terms of how to sensibly approach taking shots on the street for maximum impact. It was great just bouncing off ideas and thoughts on composition as well as more technical issues around camera settings in different scenarios. She was very knowledgeable and as an enthusiast hobbyist (me) as opposed to someone who makes their living from photography etc (Julia) I was able to take a lot of comfort from our general discussions as we walked around the streets that my general approach was right. It helped that clearly we both liked the same sort of pictures and the content but I'm sure she would easily accommodate those who are interested in different aspects and either have less or indeed greater knowledge than I do. All in all a great 2 hours that has filled me with much greater confidence in approaching Street photography in the future. A big thumbs up from me.

Photography found me before I really understood what it meant, but the moment I picked up a camera, something clicked. I've been working professionally since 2012, and over a decade later I'm still just as in love with the process as I was at the beginning.
I'm Giulia, a London-based photographer and videographer originally from Italy. I work across portraiture, fashion, commercial and editorial photography from my studio in Brixton, a space I built not just as a place to shoot, but as a place where people feel genuinely comfortable being themselves. That's really at the heart of everything I do: photography as a relationship. Not just pressing a shutter, but creating the kind of trust and presence that lets someone relax, open up, and be truly seen.
My work has taken me some wonderful places, I've been published in PhotoVogue and Glamour Italy, exhibited internationally, and had work featured in Terrific Fashion by Rizzoli. In 2025, Hypebae named me one of their "Cool & Queer Photographers to Follow." I also shoot on film alongside digital, because slowing down and being intentional with every frame is something I genuinely believe in.
But honestly? Teaching might be my favourite thing.
There's a moment I live for in every workshop, when someone who walked in nervous and unsure suddenly takes a photograph that surprises even themselves. That shift in confidence, that "wait, I can actually do this" moment, is why I love teaching so much. I don't believe in making photography feel complicated or intimidating. I believe in meeting people where they are, listening to what they actually want to learn, and creating a space where curiosity is more important than perfection.
Whether you're picking up a camera for the first time or trying to unlock more of what your camera can do, you'll leave my class with real skills, real confidence, and, I hope, a real love for the craft.
