Get your hands into the clay and shape your own mug in this fun, laid-back beginner pottery workshop. Whether you're planning a creative day with friends, dreaming up a unique date idea, or just fancy trying something new, this hands-on session is a warm way into pottery – no wheel required.
Unlike wheel throwing, hand-building lets you work at your own pace, making it a wonderfully relaxing way to explore clay while creating something both personal and practical.
Using traditional slab-building techniques, you'll shape your own mug from scratch and learn how to attach a handle, before exploring a range of colourful underglazes and slips to bring it to life. From simple patterns and illustrations to bold splashes of colour, your finished piece will be entirely your own.
No previous experience is needed – just bring your creativity, an open mind, and a willingness to get a little messy.
This workshop is perfect for:
  • Creative retreats
  • Date nights
  • Birthday activities
  • Hen parties
  • Corporate team-building
By the end of the session, you'll walk away with a one-of-a-kind mug you shaped and decorated yourself – a handmade keepsake that's as practical as it is personal, and proof of what your own two hands can create.
Please note:
  • This is a mobile studio experience, so we bring the pottery workshop to you. Our pricing is fully inclusive of studio setup, equipment transport and the dual-firing process for your finished ceramics within 15 miles of Wallington. For large corporate bookings or custom distances, click 'Request' for a tailored private quote.
  • One mug per person is included in the workshop, with extra pieces available to make for £5 each.
  • As this is a mobile workshop, the host will need to provide a suitable space – enough room for each participant to sit comfortably and work, plus space for the teacher to demonstrate.
  • The teacher will arrive in good time and be ready to start promptly. Please ensure the venue is accessible and the space is clear at least 20 minutes before the workshop begins, ready for set-up.
  • Clay can get a little messy, so hard flooring is recommended. If your space has carpet or other flooring that could be damaged, please make sure it's protected before the workshop starts.
What you'll get
  • All equipment and materials are provided.
  • Firing and finishing: After the workshop, your pottery will be carefully transported for firing. It will then be coated with a clear, glossy glaze and fired for a second time, ready to be used for its intended purpose. Please allow up to 4 weeks for your pottery to be ready.
  • Collection and Delivery: As soon as your pottery is ready, you will be notified to arrange a pickup from our designated collection point at no extra charge. If you prefer the convenience of having your finished pieces delivered straight to your door, we can safely post them to you via tracked mail for an additional delivery fee.
  • A note about ceramics: While every care is taken during the construction, handling, transportation, and firing of your pottery, ceramics are made from natural materials and the firing process can be unpredictable. Pieces may occasionally crack, warp, or break, and colours may vary from the samples shown.
  • If a piece is found to be unsuitable for food use due to cracks or other issues resulting from its construction, it will not be eligible for a refund. If your piece is damaged during transportation or as a direct result of the firing process, a £5 refund per affected piece will be offered. The cost of the class itself is non-refundable.

I’m a potter, artist and teacher with a real passion for sharing the joy of pottery with others.
My love of pottery grew from a fascination with making things by hand. I love the combination of creativity and technical skill it requires — there is always something new to learn, experiment with and improve.
I’ve been teaching for 14 years, working with hundreds of students of all ages and abilities. From complete beginners taking their first creative steps to more experienced students developing their skills, I love helping people grow in confidence. I’m especially proud that some of my students have gone on to pursue careers in the creative industries.
For me, teaching is about much more than showing someone how to make a pot. I love creating a relaxed, welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable having a go, making mistakes and discovering what they can do. I especially enjoy helping people find their “inner artist” — even those who arrive convinced they aren’t creative!
I bring both my teaching experience and technical knowledge of ceramics to every workshop, explaining the why as well as the how. Whether you’re learning to centre and throw on the wheel, exploring hand-building techniques or experimenting with decoration, I’ll help you develop your skills while having fun along the way.
You don’t need to consider yourself an artist or have any previous experience. Come along, get your hands muddy, have a go and see what you can create!
