Throughout the class, you'll be guided by a City of London tour guide who blends intriguing historical facts with creative inspiration from both the past and present. You'll use evocative photos as prompts while exploring the architectural background of famous buildings and hidden alleyways, helping you build a true sense of place for your stories. Whether you're interested in writing thrillers, romance, or literary fiction, these exercises are tailored to help you develop authentic settings and compelling narratives.
You will explore:
  • Historical photos – Spark character ideas, plot twists, and atmospheric settings using visual cues from the past.
  • Stories of London’s past – Use authentic historical details to inspire rich and believable storytelling.
  • Interactive prompts and exercises – Develop your storylines, characters, and dialogue through guided activities.
  • The power of place – Learn how to harness the city's unique energy to make your fiction feel vivid and real.
It doesn't matter if you've never written a word of fiction before; this experience is all about using your imagination to see the city in a fresh light. You'll finish the session with a notepad full of exciting ideas and the confidence to keep your characters moving through the capital's storied streets. It's an enlightening way to connect with London’s heritage and find a brand new perspective on your own creative potential.

I'm Zoe Bramley, an author and City of London Tour Guide who finds creative inspiration in the sights and sounds of the city. I love inventing stories based on a sense of place - whether it's a famous landmark, a crumbling wall, or a gleaming tower!
I qualified as a guide in 2010 when I designed and led The Shakespeare Trail, a walk which led to a book of the same name.
Hope to meet you soon!
