  • 5/5 from Helen Davies, attended Sep 2024: I loved this course- practical step by step instruction which was super clear helped me create a picture of a squash. Thank you!
  • 5/5 from Bini Ludlow, attended Sep 2024: Gemma is a brilliant art teacher. She gives clear instructions and paces the sessions to suit the group. The pencil drawing sessions allowed me to revisit the colour theory and blending of colour which is useful with all colour work in other mediums. I enjoyed seeing the works come alive throughout the course and my observational skills improve. I can’t wait to continue with drawing with colour pencils and to see how my future colour work improves. Thank you again Gemma. Look forward to attending another course.
  • 5/5 from Polly Morgans, attended Sep 2024: Gemma gently encourages you to develop and explore art skills / materials by demonstrating, then building through each session so that you feel a final sense of achievement. Really enjoyable zoom class and now a regular student. Thanks Gemma.
  • 5/5 from Debbie Howcroft, attended Sep 2024: gemma is an excellent teacher. I will certainly doing more classes with Gemma. great pace and learned lots!
  • 5/5 from Gill Watkins, attended Sep 2024: I have found the online courses very enjoyable and in the comfort of my own home. I have learnt a lot and feel very inspired to do more painting.
  • 4/5 from Liza Donoghue, attended Sep 2024: My only criticism was that it was held in the evening after dark and therefore by artificial light. Mine looked very different in the daylight! Otherwise I enjoyed the class and felt I'd gained some good tips!

Hi, I'm Gemma, an artist, art educator, and the founder of Green Fox Workshops, which has now evolved into Gemma Lane Art.
Art has always been at the heart of everything I do. After completing my Fine Art degree at Oxford Brookes University in 2006, I became a secondary school Art teacher in 2007. Over the past 15+ years, I've had the privilege of helping hundreds of young people discover their creativity and grow in confidence.
In 2016, I founded Green Fox Workshops to bring creative opportunities to a wider community. As my work has grown and become more closely connected to my own artistic practice and teaching, I've transitioned the business to Gemma Lane Art. While the name has changed, the heart of what I do remains the same: creating welcoming, inspiring spaces where people of all ages can enjoy making art.
I believe everyone can be creative when they're given the time, encouragement, and guidance to explore. Whether you're picking up a pencil for the first time or experimenting with oil paint or clay, my aim is to make every workshop relaxed, accessible, and enjoyable.
I teach using a calm, step-by-step approach, helping people build skills without feeling overwhelmed. One of the things I love most is seeing people surprise themselves with what they can achieve. Many of my students return again and again—not just to learn new techniques, but because they enjoy being part of a friendly, creative community.
I've been fortunate to work with wonderful organisations and venues across Bath, Bristol, and Somerset, including The Bishop's Palace, Tyntesfield (National Trust), Hestercombe House, and SS Great Britain.
Since 2022, I've also worked with the home education community, designing Art and Photography sessions tailored to each learner's interests. In 2025, I collaborated with Bristol Streams Hub to help more young people explore creativity through hands-on artistic experiences offering GCSE Art and GCSE Photography in small group sizes.
Alongside teaching, I'm a practising artist, and I believe that continuing my own creative journey enables me to inspire others to develop confidence, curiosity, and joy through creativity.
Whether you're joining a workshop, booking a private session, or simply looking to reconnect with your creative side, I'd love to welcome you to Gemma Lane Art.
