Get a private introduction to ceramics with this private pottery taster session, specifically designed for beginners. This activity is a perfect first step if you're curious about working with clay.
With dedicated guidance, you will learn foundational ceramic techniques. You can choose your focus for the session: either learn how to use the pottery wheel to throw a basic pot, or try hand-building methods to create a small cup using coiling, or perhaps experiment with a simple sculptural shape.
The cost covers all the clay and tools you'll use during this introductory activity, as well as the subsequent firing of the piece you create.
This taster session offers a supportive and personalised way to try your hand at pottery, learn fundamental methods, and make a small keepsake to remember your first experience with clay.

Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 4 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we'll cancel the class; in this case we'll inform you and allow you to get a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.

Ceramics Classes London is a haven of tranquility and space for learning. Established in 2019.
Our studios are in Hammersmith and Barnes. We are based in London at the rear of 19 Barnes High Street, SW13 9LW and Railway arch 57, Cambridge Grove in Hammersmith W6 0LD.
We teach courses in hand-building & throwing techniques both contemporary and traditional. Sculptural and domestic ware. We embrace play and find joy in working with clay. We aim to cultivate mindfulness through the act of creating,
Our courses are 3 hours in duration for either 1 week, 4 weeks or 8 weeks. Mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. All our materials and firing costs are included.
Private throwing classes are 90 minutes for 1-1 with an experienced teacher.
Taster classes are offered in a group for 90 minutes, options include 1 person, 2 people, 3 or 4 people, up to groups of 20-40 people.
Birthday parties and corporate events; the sessions will last 1.5-3 hours depending upon the group size. Each person can keep two of their best works and a clear glaze will be applied to the finished work ready to collect 4-5 weeks after the party. We include Prosecco and glasses for corporate events.
For children’s parties aged 6-8 years children can choose to make a figurative animal sculpture or a pot out of clay and paint with coloured slips. Aged 8 years upwards, they can throw pots on the pottery wheel. Materials and firing costs are included. Parties are supported by a minimum of 2 teachers and you are welcome to bring cake and drinks to the studio.
We have 8 pottery wheels in Barnes and 3 large tables for hand building. We have 12 pottery wheels in Hammersmith and 3 large tables for hand building. We can accommodate 16 children in Barnes and 24 children in Hammersmith.
For larger groups they can decide whether to do both activities: hand building at the tables and swop over for throwing on the pottery wheel or choose to do just throwing or just hand building to focus more on one activity.
