Ceramic Shells and Flowers Workshop

Hand-build your own ceramic shells, flowers, or botanical-inspired pieces from earthenware clay.

1.5 hours Class size 1 to 8 guests       £38 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Make something delicate, decorative, and full of seaside charm in this relaxed, beginner-friendly clay workshop in Margate. You’ll hand-build your own ceramic shells, flowers, or botanical-inspired pieces from soft white earthenware clay.
This is a lovely workshop for anyone who wants to slow down, make something beautiful, and spend a creative afternoon by the sea. No experience needed, just come ready to play with clay.
What to expect:
  • Shape, pinch, press, texture, and refine your clay using simple hand-building techniques.
  • Learn how to create form and detail using your hands, tools, stamps, shells, and surface texture.
  • You’ll be able to choose whether to focus on shells, flowers, or a mixture of both.
  • Finished pieces can be used decoratively as ornaments, wall charms, trinket dishes or keepsakes.
  • Each piece is shaped by hand, so natural variation, soft edges, and small details are all part of the beauty.
  • Once your pieces are made, you’ll decorate them with colourful underglazes.
After the workshop, we’ll dry, fire, glaze, and re-fire your work for you, ready to collect a few weeks later once fully finished. Small ceramic treasures, made by hand.
What you'll get
  • Your ceramic pieces glazed and fired in the kiln -- ready for collection in 4-6 weeks.
  • Tuition, clay, tools, underglaze colours, glazing, and firing.
  • Light refreshments.

Hi! I’m Bella — ceramic artist and founder of Handmade Margate — and this is Marlow, assistant manager, official greeter, and tail wagger.
I make pots for a living, teach people how to do the same, and I’ve built this little space in Margate for anyone who wants to try something creative.
It’s cosy, hands-on, and beginner-friendly — you’ll get clay under your nails, learn a few solid skills, and leave feeling calmer
There’s also a small shop of handmade pieces and gifts — the kind of things you actually want to take home, handmade by real people.
If you fancy coming along, booking something private, hosting a workshop yourself, or you’ve got something cute and handmade that could work in the shop, please get in touch:
