2 x 7 hours Class size 1 to 20 guests       £70 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Join us for a 2 day weekend pottery course in London, exploring open wood firing in the woods using locally sourced raw clay. Set in the ancient woodland of Lesnes Abbey Woods, you’ll explore the processes, materials, history, and shared collective experience of working with wild clay.
This beginner-friendly workshop welcomes adults interested in hands-on, nature-based making. You’ll be guided through the process of forming and firing raw clay using ancient techniques, working at a relaxed pace while learning how to use sustainably sourced urban clays that would otherwise go to waste.
What to expect:
  • Work with locally sourced and sustainably reclaimed wild and urban clays.
  • Learn traditional hand-building techniques using raw clay.
  • Create your own simple modelling tools.
  • Explore open wood firing methods in an outdoor woodland setting.
  • Learn about the history and processes behind wild clay pottery.
  • A collaborative, nature-connected making experience at The Clearing woodland workshop.
By the end of the weekend, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of traditional clay techniques and unique handmade pottery shaped by natural firing methods!

We are a nonprofit organisation based in SE London, offering wellbeing and bushcraft opportunities, we can be found in two locations, the first is our indoor space we call Creative Nature HQ located at Thames-side-studios by the river Thames and the second space is called The Clearing, an outdoor space set in the woods at Lesnes Abbey Woods.
We began in 2016, exploring an alternative way to express our creativity that looked to develop deeper connections with nature within the city. At the centre of our practice is love, generosity, humour, connection and balance. For us this is a daily practice, and we have been co creating opportunities for people to join us and experience it for themselves.
We work all year round outside in the woods and have created a space that has reached a new chapter in our story. The Clearing has taken us four years to vision, build, develop relationships with Bexley Council the land managers, fundraise, design, gain permissions and finally we opened this space September 2024! A real milestone for a tiny organisation of one paid member of staff and a beautiful network of volunteers and supporters.
Our vision holder and navigator of this organisation is Stephen Stockbridge, an artist with over 35 years of experience, building, making and creating both permanent and temporary work that has engaged and delighted participants, here and around the world.
We invite you to go beyond the transactional society we move in every day and ask you to step into a more open hearted playful space where learning and joy is as easy as breathing.
We look forward to meeting you.
