Pocket Shrine Sewing Workshop

Make your own pocket shrine in this sewing workshop in London!

3.5 hours

Class size 1 to 12 (public classes), 1 to 15
  £9

Join us for our lovely 'pocket shrines’ sewing workshop in London, where you will hand-sew a beautiful decorative pouch. The choice of dedication is yours -- our example is a charm for dormice, complete with plants and conservation symbols they rely on, and an embroidered dedication. Or, just go decorative and finish with decorative tassels, beads, and buttons!
No experience is needed to join in. Bringing your own trinkets, spells, fabrics, or mini artworks to include is encouraged, but not required! We will guide you through the steps to make the pouch, including inserting ribbon and finishing neatly, but you can personalise as you wish.
Take your time sewing for the full 3.5 hours, or leave early if you’re finished. It’s going to be a relaxing, fun evening of meditative sewing and open-ended creativity, with refreshments and all basic materials provided.
Please note: We regret that our venue is not wheelchair accessible.

Silkworm Collective

female Women-owned

We are Silkworm Collective, a women's art cooperative rooted in female labour and love. We run creative workshops across London, and have collaborated with public libraries, schools, private companies and galleries, artist run spaces and community centres. Our events are calm, friendly and meditative, with an emphasis on community building and craft.
We - Heera, Xuan, Cleo, Seb and Ellie - met whilst studying in art school together, and found that we shared a love of textile techniques. We began applying for art opportunities and running events together. After three years of experience, our workshops span not only textile crafts such as weaving and sewing, but also tetrapack printing, aromatherapy candle making, drawing techniques and creative writing. In all of these, we work hard to use recycled or repurposed materials where possible.
Each of us is an experienced teacher and facilitator in our own right, but our events for Silkworm Collective are special: blending craft and transferrable skills with thoughtful prompts, carefully researched concepts, and gentle guidance and inspiration.
We can't wait to welcome you to one of our events!
