6 hours Class size 6 to 8 guests

  £220 - £250 (£220 for Private Corporate Workshop; £250 for Public Workshop)

Learn to forge your own Viking-style blacksmith's knife in this full-day blacksmithing workshop in London, creating a stunning one-piece item with an integrated steel handle that you'll shape with your own hands. Over the course of the day, you'll be guided through every step by an expert instructor who'll demonstrate live exactly how it's done, teaching you the skills and techniques needed to produce something you'll genuinely treasure.
Your Day
Morning
  • Introduction, guide to forge safety, PPE, and how to use a gas forge
  • Drawing out the handle
  • Forging the blade to shape
Afternoon
  • Profiling the blade
  • Shaping the handle
  • Heat treating (including normalising and hardening)
  • Blade finishing, grinding and sharpening
You'll start the day learning forge safety and getting comfortable with the equipment, then move into the real work of drawing out and forging your blade. By afternoon, you'll be refining every detail – profiling, shaping, heat treating to get the steel just right, then finishing and sharpening to create a functional, beautiful knife. It's a genuine journey from raw steel to finished piece, and you'll understand every step of how it got there.
By the end of the day, you'll walk away with a handcrafted knife that's a lasting reminder of what you've learned and made – something built to last and genuinely special.

Welcome to the Forge
A place to switch off, get hands-on, and make something real.
At our South-West London workshop, we believe everyone has a maker inside them — you just need the right space and someone to show you the ropes. Here, the fire’s always going, the kettle’s usually on, and no one is expected to be an expert. You’ll learn at your own pace, pick up new skills, and leave with something you built with your own two hands.
