This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Una Walsh, attended May 2025: i thoroughly enjoyed this session, Amanda was so patient, never rushed. We covered all the basics, then went on to the more decorative things the machine cold do. She showed me how to do each technique, then watched as I tried, pointing out where things went wrong, without making me feel silly. I feel I can now do the basics and then build on that to add to my skills. I would recommend this to anyone thinking of buying a sewing machine.

  • 5/5 from Catherine McGrogan, attended Jul 2024: I recently booked a one-to-one sewing machine lesson for my daughter at Hobbycraft with Amanda, and we were absolutely thrilled with the experience! From the moment we walked in, Amanda's warm and welcoming demeanor put us at ease. She was incredibly knowledgeable, taking the time to explain each step of the process in a way that was easy to understand, and making sure my daughter felt comfortable and confident throughout the lesson. The materials provided were top-notch - user-friendly and of high quality. The workspace was spotless, well-organized, and had plenty of room for my daughter to spread out and work comfortably. Despite being in a busy store, we felt like we had our own private lesson, which was a lovely surprise. Amanda's teaching style was fantastic - she was patient, encouraging, and made the entire process feel fun and engaging. By the end of the hour-long lesson, my daughter had learned all the basics of using a sewing machine and felt empowered to continue practicing and improving her skills. Amanda's enthusiasm and expertise were infectious, and my daughter left feeling inspired and motivated. We would highly recommend Amanda's sewing lessons at Hobbycraft to anyone looking to learn the basics of sewing or improve their skills. Her passion and knowledge of sewing shines through and we feel so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from her.
