Discover the colourful world of screen printing in a cosy, creative studio at The Chocolate Factory N16 in Hackney. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll design your own paper stencils to screen print onto a tote bag or T-shirt to take home. Don’t worry if you’re new to screen printing — I’ll demonstrate the process and guide you through each step, providing plenty of tips and encouragement along the way.
  • No previous experience is needed
  • Relaxed, accessible, and fun for everyone
Children will have the chance to get creative by designing and cutting their own stencils, choosing colours, and printing their designs. Younger participants can jump straight into printing with a variety of ready-made stencils. Tote bags and children’s T-shirts will be provided. Adults can bring their own cotton T-shirt to print if they prefer.
Prepare to get messy, have fun, and create something wonderful as you turn a simple idea into your very own printed piece. By the end of this two-hour workshop, each participant will have their own screen-printed T-shirt or tote bag to take home.
This activity is ideal for families, grandparents and grandchildren, or friends looking for a fun and creative time together.
What you'll get
A tote bag or children's T- shirt.
Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly - no experience required.
What to bring
Adult T-shirt (optional): If you’d prefer to print a T-shirt rather than a tote bag, please bring your own 100% cotton T-shirt. White or light colours work best.
Clothing: Screen printing can occasionally involve a little ink splatter, so please wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting messy. Aprons are provided, or you’re welcome to bring your own.
Design inspiration: Feel free to bring images or ideas to inspire your paper stencils. Matisse-style cut-outs, black-and-white vector art, simple silhouettes and basic shapes work well. Avoid fine lines and half-tone imagery. Don’t worry if you come without anything — I have plenty of inspiration at the studio.
Suitable for

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 6 years old).

An adult must accompany any attending kids, and must pay for a separate ticket.

This experience would also be a unique gift for her or gift for mum.

FAQ

Are children under 6 allowed?
Yes! Children under 6 are welcome, provided an accompanying adult is happy to support them throughout the two-hour workshop. As the class is primarily designed for children aged 6+, I recommend no more than one child under 6 per group. Please book a place for each participating child. (Babies who aren’t taking part are of course welcome free of charge)
Will there be a chance to do a practice print at the beginning?
As this is a shorter workshop designed for family groups, we’ll get straight into printing your tote bag or T-shirt after my initial demonstration. I’ll be on hand throughout to offer plenty of help and guidance to make sure everyone gets a great print. If you'd prefer a longer session with time for a practice print, please take a look at my 'Beginners Level Screen Printing on Fabric Workshop', where you can book individual places on a public class or arrange a private group.
Will we be able to print more than one colour?
Yes! This will depend on your design and how long it takes to cut your stencils. I’ll be happy to advise you on what’s achievable during the session.

Hello, I am a textile designer and maker, based at the Chocolate Factory studios N16, London. I hand screen prints designs for a variety of interior accessories which can be found in my online shop. Along side my creative practice I teach screen printing workshops in small groups in my fully equipped print studio.
My love of screen printing has lasted for over 30 years since my MA at the RCA and I have been busy at my studio ever since. I design and make an extensive range of interior products but I am best known for my signature machine stitched and printed lampshades, which have adorned many homes and supplied numerous independent stores and galleries across the UK and beyond. My current collection can be found exclusively online and from my pattern filled studio.
I am here to offer small group classes in screen printing onto fabric in a unique setting at our converted Victorian Chocolate Factory studios in Hackney. You will gain hands on experience to this addictive craft, have fun with friends and get creative without fear of messing up. Screen printing is all about surprise and uncertainty with some amazing results, whether intentional or not and the outcome is always incredibly rewarding!
