In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to create beautiful patterned textiles using the plant bundle dyeing technique. You'll master methods for extracting natural colours from everyday plants like onion skins and marigold flowers, taking home your own uniquely dyed silk and cotton fabric pieces.
Curious about natural dyeing processes? This activity welcomes beginners with no prior experience needed. The accessible approach ensures everyone creates stunning results while learning sustainable textile practices.
Throughout this 3-hour session with instructor Yifan, you'll discover how to identify and prepare various plant materials for dyeing purposes. You'll learn to arrange these botanical elements on fabric and bundle them tightly to create distinctive patterns and colour transfers. The workshop provides both practical skills and creative freedom as you experiment with different plant combinations and arrangement techniques to achieve your desired aesthetic.
By the end of this how-to workshop, you'll connect with ancient textile traditions that harness nature's palette.

YICRAFTS is an east asian handcrafts studio based in north western London in Camden founded in 2019. Its focus is on the beautiful but vanishing traditional handcrafts and cuisine of China’s minority ethnicities. Intercultural sharing is constant and often unconscious throughout our daily lives, and hand crafts are the physical embodiment of culture and cultural sharing.
Founder Yiran is a member of Bai ethnic minority, and she has experienced the great diversity within the UK and London, but I have found that the diverse cultures of China’s numerous ethnic minorities are underrepresented, with ‘China’ viewed as a single cultural source. The opportunity to introduce and share the unique and sometimes surprising customs, traditions and practices of her home province inspires her.
It provides the chance to understand both commonalities and differences in culture, and to understand our shared history.
