Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Durba Banerjee, attended Aug 2026: Lovely class with Sue learning about the basics of how to use a sewing machine. Sue was patient and friendly and i did learn a lot. But an hour isn’t enough. Maybe next time I’ll look for something longer!
  • 5/5 from Alison Hesley, attended Jul 2026: Sue was fantastic as usual. We learnt a lot. It was exactly what we wanted.
  • 5/5 from Marcia, attended Jun 2026: I've not sewn for over 19 years so I decided to buy a new sewing machine and attend a sewing workshop at Hobbycraft. I was nervous but Sue (the tutor)put me totally at ease straight away. She showed me how to set my machine up and how to use the various attachments and stitches. Sue was very patient, personable and ensured that I had confidently learned everything she taught me. She did this by me allowing me to show her whatever stage she had taught me before moving on to the next stage. The workshop atmosphere was very enjoyable to the point that I felt like it was a friend teaching me, and Sue encouraged me to ask questions about anything that I didn't understand. The thing I liked most about the workshop was how nice Sue was. She made the workshop a fun place to learn, and was genuinely concerned that I would feel confident on how to use my new sewing machine by the end of the session. After the workshop I couldn't wait to go home and set up my new machine and use it.

I honestly couldn't be happier and can't wait to start making stuff on my own machine.
  • 5/5 from Sarah Leadbeater, attended Aug 2025: We needed advice on the most suitable machine for my 16yr old daughter who starts A level textiles in Sept. Rebecca was fantastic, started with the machine we preferred and talked us through its set up, settings and confirmed for us its suitability. Rebecca went at a pace which was perfect, my 16 yr old came out buzzing. After purchasing it, (Rebecca helped us secure the last machine in another Hobbycraft store) my daughter has spent hours practising and is happy to go into her course knowing she has the right tools. Thank you!
