Camden as a Catwalk Fashion Course

This summer, learn to upcycle and redesign your wardrobe with guest fashion designer, 'Stitch and Loop with Lily'!

5 x 5 hours Class size 1 to 8 guests       £400 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Lily from ‘Stitch & Loop with Lily’ is joining us this summer to teach a week of sewing, upcycling, and crochet!
The perfect screen-free summer activity to get hands-on and learning new skills. All skill levels are welcome, from beginners to advanced, and all materials, sewing machines, and more are provided. You will learn how to hand-sew, thread and use a sewing machine, as well as developing an understanding of designing and making clothing (and more), using and adapting patterns, and upcycling already-existing garments.
If you already know the basics of crochet, you are welcome to come and advance your crochet skills into the art of Amigurumi (making soft toys and plushies), as well as Made to Measure garment and accessory-making, such as bags, and more. Cross-textile art skills can also be learned when adding linings to crochet pieces, or blending sewing and crochet skills into one project. Students can choose if they would like to spend part, or all of the week crocheting, and will be encouraged to blend techniques as mentioned above.
The week will start with a smaller starter project, to get into the groove of sewing, before one or two larger projects to push and learn further garment construction and sewing techniques.
Sustainability Ethos:
Stitch and Loop with Lily was founded with sustainability at the forefront: no scraps are wasted, pattern cutting and design are thought through to minimise textile waste, and students are encouraged to think about Fast Fashion, and what we can do to help the planet. Each day will feature a guided discussion giving students the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas on topics related to sustainable, secondhand, and handmade fashion.
About your Instructor:
Lilyella, from Lilyella the Label, has been sewing for over 16 years, and crafting for even longer. She has fine-tuned her sewing skills at London Fashion Week, whilst studying Classics and Ancient Art at Durham University, created her own mixed-media and textile (crochet and sewing fusion) final collection titled ‘The Rebirth of Venus’. Her unique approach to blending sewing, crochet, and upcycling gives students a cross-curricular, and sustainable approach to fashion and design.
What to expect:
  • Learn essential fashion skills, including fashion illustration and mood boards.
  • Hone your paper pattern drafting and design planning skills.
  • Bring your ideas to life through machine sewing, garment construction, fitting techniques, and creative embellishment.
  • Create with a mindful approach to reworking, upcycling, and sustainable fashion practices!
By the end of the course, you'll have created a finished garment to catwalk your way into the summer season. This summer, turn your fashion ideas into reality with HvH ARTS Fashion Academy!

HvH Photography Academy
HvH Photography Academy

female Women-owned

Our photography academy is aimed at students interested in photography who would like to develop an everlasting knowledge of the craft and build a professional portfolio for their future. Building from the ground up, our 4-level course covers an in-depth understanding of the camera and lighting, while aiding the development of your own voice using photography. We will explore the genres of photography so that you can find your space in the medium, all culminating in a final exhibition that will give your work exposure and build up a professional portfolio.
The structure, teaching, and experience you receive through the academy are unique, as it is equivalent to GCSE-Level Photography. The Academy begins with introductory courses about mastering the camera and includes different levels to accelerate into and develop your skills. Certificates are awarded at the end of each level. We focus on teaching photography as a whole subject, including its history and most influential photographers, to develop the student’s understanding and appreciation of the art of photography.
WHAT IS HvH ARTS?
HvH ARTS is a registered charity inspiring the next generation of young people by offering them a gateway to the arts. Young people need positive outlets for their energy. HvH ARTS provides and nurtures that outlet with the following core aims:
  • Delivering free after-school clubs in various arts and media subjects at primary and secondary schools in England.
  • Delivering free out-of-school classes in various arts and media subjects.
  • Providing materials to our scholars and beneficiaries for use in the study of the arts.
  • Providing primary and secondary state schools in England with arts-related materials and funds for out-of-school trips and excursions.
  • Developing out-of-school excursions and trips to events centred on the arts, including visits to art galleries, the theatre, exhibitions and places of artistic interest.
  • Supporting vulnerable children and young people at risk with THE MUSIC MENTORING PROJECT.
Additionally we nurture our young people’s talent and self-worth by recognising our most determined and passionate or talented artists on ’The HvH Arts Scholarship’. This is a programme which concentrates on each and every individual scholar to develop their skills to a level to gain entry into colleges and universities in which we support them with our courses, resources and materials to enhance study in their chosen medium.
We are also proud to represent a Youth Ambassadors Board of young people aged 14 to 21 years. Youth Ambassadors demonstrate great discipline in their chosen art form, promote good mental health awareness, and support other young people on our progressive programmes such as TMMP and the HVH ARTS Scholarship Programme.
In the face of rising youth mental health challenges, we have launched a new initiative that utilises creative expression as a tool for healing. Our Mental Health Exploratory Art Pilot Programme delivered one-on-one monthly art sessions to children aged 5 – 18 who have been long-time participants of HvH Arts. These children face emotional and social challenges, and this programme offers them a safe, consistent space to express themselves and build confidence.
