These private one-to-one drawing and painting sessions in London are designed for complete beginners, returning learners and developing artists alike. No previous experience is needed, and if you already have some, we can focus on the techniques, materials or areas you want to strengthen.
The course runs across up to 10 sessions, and you can book single sessions, a shorter series or the full programme. You're never committed to all 10 from the start.
Sessions combine demonstration, guided practice and independent making. Rather than asking you to copy an image, I'll explain how and why techniques work, looking closely at observation, proportion, perspective, light, tone, colour and composition. You'll have plenty of time for questions, revisiting tricky areas and individual feedback throughout.
Depending on your interests and level, we can cover:
  • Pencil and observational drawing, including drawing objects accurately from life
  • Shape, proportion, perspective and composition
  • Light, shadow, tone and texture
  • Line and ink techniques
  • Watercolour, acrylic and oil painting, including layering and brushwork (oils take a few days)
  • Colour mixing and colour relationships
  • Developing a sketch into a finished painting
  • Moving from traditional techniques towards more expressive approaches
We start wherever you are. Beginners might begin with materials and basic pencil work before moving on to line, ink and still life, while those with more experience can progress more quickly through areas they already feel confident in. The aim isn't just a finished picture but skills and creative confidence you can carry into your own practice.

Also suitable for intermediate level art learners.
What to bring
  • Please bring your own A3 mixed-media sketchbook or several sheets of A3 multipurpose/mixed-media art paper to each session. For acrylic or oil painting sessions, please also bring a canvas (ideally around 30 × 40 cm).
  • I recommend bringing several sheets of paper, as we may use multiple pages for exercises, preliminary sketches, experimentation, and finished work.
  • Most other art materials will be provided during the sessions, including pencils, drawing tools, watercolours, acrylic paints, and brushes.
  • As the course progresses, I may recommend additional materials depending on the techniques and media you would like to explore. These are not required at the beginning.

My artistic and educational experience includes creative projects, exhibitions and programmes connected with Tate Modern Lates, the Science Museum, the Coronation Concert and Kingston Museum.
As a practising artist, I work across traditional and contemporary approaches to drawing and painting. I have extensive experience with pencil drawing, watercolour, acrylic and oil painting, as well as observational drawing, colour, composition and creative visual storytelling.
I believe learning art should be both skill-building and enjoyable. In my classes, I combine clear, step-by-step guidance with plenty of room for experimentation and individual expression. I encourage each participant to discover how they want to use colour, materials, objects and imagery to make something personal.
My workshops range from expressive bird painting and visual storytelling to LED light painting. I offer 1:1 private classes as well, which include more in-depth tuition in traditional drawing and painting techniques to grow your practice in the arts.
