This engaging activity offers a unique look into the encaustic medium. You'll witness artist Esther Towler demonstrate various techniques directly onto photographs – methods often explored in a full workshop setting – and you'll even get a hands-on chance to try the wax medium for yourself. It's a fantastic opportunity to learn more about this absorbing process.
During the demonstration day, you can expect to:
  • Watch a live demonstration showing how to apply encaustic techniques to photographs.
  • Have a hands-on opportunity to experiment with the wax medium.
  • Gain insight into the creative process, materials, and tools involved.
  • Learn more during a Q&A session with the demonstrating artist.
The day also features an insightful creative talk with Anchen Bamford, the self-taught artist and founder of A.B. Art Studios. Anchen will share her personal story of using art as a powerful means for growth and change.
This event provides a welcoming and engaging space, ideal for artists, photographers, and anyone curious about exploring new creative methods. Refreshments are provided, allowing you to relax, explore, and connect with fellow creatives.
You’ll leave feeling wonderfully inspired, having gained valuable insights into this captivating art form and enjoyed the shared stories and creativity of the day.

Hi, I’m Anchen, founder of A.B. Art Studios—an inspiring creative space and gallery nestled in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, where art meets purpose, play, and possibility.
As an accredited advanced creative facilitator with over 15 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of people from all walks of life—from corporate teams and leadership groups to charities, schools, and individuals seeking meaningful, hands-on creative experiences.
At A.B. Art Studios, we believe in the power of creativity to energise, connect, and bring clarity to both individuals and organisations. From expressive painting sessions and inspiring art retreats to tailored corporate wellness days, I design experiences that are as joyful and energising as they are purposeful and impactful. Our studio hosts a variety of art retreat days, creative workshops, and artist demonstration events, all set in our peaceful, countryside location—an ideal setting to unwind, explore, and reconnect. We regularly welcome guest artists, run themed seasonal retreats, and offer a growing calendar of creative experiences for both individuals and groups.
Over the years, I’ve worked with organisations such as the Children’s Red Cross Hospital, Pinotage Youth Development Academy, Muizenberg Improvement District, Embrace, and the District 6 communities. In the UK, I’ve also developed and facilitated creative support workshops for parents of children with hidden needs, offering relaxed painting sessions to reconnect and recharge. I’m the founder of Pretty Pride, a nonprofit initiative supporting women to rebuild their lives through creativity, mentoring, and skill-building. This passion for empowering others continues through my collaborative work, including curated group exhibitions at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, where I brought together local and established artists to celebrate connection, culture, and the natural world.
One of our key initiatives, Why Art, explores why creativity matters—across education, leadership, wellbeing, innovation, and community life. It’s an inclusive and evolving conversation that celebrates the essential role of art in shaping how we live and work.
I don’t see myself as a traditional teacher—I love to facilitate. I believe something meaningful happens when people are invited to connect with the fearless part of their own creative heart. Sometimes, we just need the right tools or environment to rediscover what we’re truly meant to create—and that’s what I aim to offer.
Join us for a variety of upcoming art retreat days, artist-led demonstrations, creative talks, and more—all hosted in our beautiful countryside studio.
