Ready to capture the essence of Walthamstow in your sketchbook? Join us for a three-day holiday workshop, running from Wednesday to Friday, 29-31 July, 10:00 to 16:00 each day. You’ll learn how to document your surroundings, sketching classic Walthamstow architecture, the bustling market, and scenic local views.
This course is designed to help you make the most of your sketchbook, developing your ideas and visual storytelling skills. We’ll take short walks around Walthamstow, gathering photographic inspiration on our phones and tablets, which we’ll then bring back to the studio to work from. Together, we’ll explore how to gather and assemble visual information, what to draw in our sketchbooks, and how to develop layouts and designs from our initial sketches.
Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, you'll find this activity both informative and inspiring. You'll leave with a sketchbook filled with your own unique perspectives of Walthamstow, and a new found confidence in your drawing abilities.

Debora Cane, is an enthusiastic art tutor with 40 years’ experience of adult learning. Following a brief pottery apprenticeship with Chris Soule early in the 1980s Debora went to Medway College of Design to study ceramics. In those days if you wanted to collect visual information you had to do so by drawing and (because we were studying ceramics) no-one tried to put you off drawing in pen & ink. She has run a studio ever since leaving art college making a wide variety of objects: reduction fired stoneware and acrylic paintings from her studio in Warwickshire in the 1980s; large lustreware decorated bowls and stoneware domesticware in the 1990s from her studio in City Road in Cambridge; screen printing and embroidered textiles in the 2000s; and finally the move towards pen & ink and digital art. All of these activities have been underpinned by observational drawing and her use of sketchbooks.
