What you'll do
If you're looking to learn some new sewing techniques or need gift ideas for a creative friend, this online hand stitching class would be just the thing for you! You'll master a folded patchwork technique and combine four different types of fabric to craft a stunning, one-of-a-kind design to take home. Your teacher will be on hand throughout your online class to demonstrate sewing techniques and answer any questions you may have, so you can relax and focus on stitching up a storm. Intermediate sewing skills.
What to bring
- Fabric A – natural linen – one fat quarter.
- Fabric B – liberty prints – scraps, charm packs approximately ½ metre total – largest piece 12” by 6”.
- Fabric C - felted wool or wool felt in cream for interior pages – one fat quarter.
- Fabric D - wadding – 7” by 12”. Pellon Flex Foam Fusible would give a firm structure, but you could use quilt batting of mid or low loft if you want a softer look (or want to go easier on your sewing machine!)
- General sewing kit including fine hand sewing needles.
- One vintage pearlized button – ¾” diameter.
- Hi-tack fabric glue.
- 20 stick-on pearlized buttons – available from Amazon approx. 1/8” diameter.
- Thin pink ribbon – 20”.
- Lightweight stabiliser 6” square – Pellon Shape Flex would be a suitable cotton fusible interfacing.
- Matching sewing thread – e.g YLI invisible thread and bottom-line thread in light grey (colour code 630)
- Frixion marker pen or another form of marker.
- 505 temporary fabric adhesive spray.
- Walking foot.

Sallieann Harrison
Sallieann Harrison is a popular designer and regular presenter of patchwork and quilting for TV’s Sewing Street. Her passion for sewing led her into the world of American patchwork and quilting in early 2000 whilst living in the USA. Since then, Sallieann has gone on to complete an honours degree in education and has been teaching and working in the education sector both as a patchwork tutor and as an education compliance officer for Ofsted.
Her love of sewing and depth of knowledge has led her to both exhibit and demonstrate at the Houston International Show and teach residential courses for the Women’s Institute College Denman. Her inspiring fun sewing creations (that are not always limited to quilts) can often be found in popular sewing magazines.
