Recent reviews of Power Tools 101: Safety and Skills Workshop

  • 5/5 from Andrew Zein, attended Oct 2026: The course was absolutely brilliant. Everything I hoped to get out of it: an introduction to power tools and an understanding of what to use, how to use it, and when to use it. Sean, our teacher, was brilliant. Moving fast enough to cover a lot of ground, but comfortable taking questions. The combination of instruction and hands-on activity meant that I left understanding everything I wanted to.
  • 5/5 from Samira Raj, attended Aug 2026: Incredible class and teacher! Perfect mix of super practical instructions and practise using power tools! Feel so lucky to have found you! Highly recommend!
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Aug 2026: Class really helpful for beginners, packed with information. Sean was great, very generous with sharing his knowledge!
  • 5/5 from Karim Ezzouek, attended Aug 2026: Great class. Sean strikes a great balance between theory and hands on learning. Left with a greater confidence and understanding of how to use core power tools. Highly recommended
  • 4/5 from Lora Linhares-Marx, attended Aug 2026: It was really great, learnt a lot. Very accessible and felt ok to ask lots of questions. Perhaps some option to ask people what their goals were for their tool use might have made sure people walked away with the answers they needed.
  • 5/5 from Alison Cole, attended Jul 2026: Informative and built my confidence with tool use. Got to use tools I wasn't confident to use before.. Would recommend
  • 5/5 from Guilherme Hoffmann, attended Jul 2026: A great workshop with amazing people. Important lessons on safety and building confidence when handling heavy tools—especially if you’ve never had the chance to use equipment like that before. Valuable tips on daily use and maintenance were also shared. And last but not least, it was a real pleasure to hear about Brandon’s experience. Highly recommended.
  • 5/5 from Daman, attended Jul 2026: helped me learn how to use the power tools I already have better for home diy, and gave. me the opportunity to handle a new one. also helped me learn about materials and the physics involved when using them with fixings and power tools - overall really insightful, in a well-equipped and lovely workshop space, with a friendly and knowledgeable teacher (thanks Brandon!)
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Jul 2026: Great way to build confidence, try things out and get feedback on correct ways to use the powers tools - all in a friendly, supportive and interactive atmosphere. This has shown me once again that I never learn better than in person with a real great teacher (thanks Brendan) and real people to learn with and from. It was more fun than expected too. Thank you!
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Jul 2026: Brendan was great teacher. Confident to start using a number of tools now. Only negative was class space not disabled friendly as it was upstairs with no lift.
  • 5/5 from Jenny Cox, attended Jul 2026: The teacher was very calm and clear. He broke down all the basics and answered our questions kindly. Thank you
  • 5/5 from Sue Flynn, attended Jun 2026: Great class! A hands on approach to learning about power tools. Will definitely be back for another class!
  • 5/5 from Aline Arruda, attended Jun 2026: Brendan was very patient, explained things well and was very knowleadgeble. I really enjoyed this class. There were notepads and reading material available which was great. There were about 5 of us, which seemed an ideal number of people for this class. The room was extremely hot, due to the heatwave but we coped well with the 2 fans available. My only suggestion would be for more tools to be covered on the day and to have more practice time. People usually have a lot of stories to tell and a lot of questions related to what they are looking to do, which is not always what other people are interested in, so I felt way too much time was spent talking. Sometimes the class just needs to keep going. I will be looking into joining another course to keep learning. I had a lot of fun in this class.
  • 4/5 from Alison Williamson, attended Jun 2026: The intro to power tools was very good, Brendan was clear, helpful and patient. The atmosphere was great, there were 6 of us and it felt like just the right number. I didn’t mark it as ‘great’ as it was pretty dry subject matter, not a reflection of the teaching
  • 5/5 from Laurell Edwards, attended May 2026: It was a really good morning with a great instructor and lovely group of people. I have some power tools already, but learnt some things about how to use them that I never knew before, like the hammer function on a drill (and it’s not exactly the same as hammering lol). I wish the class was a little longer to be able to try more things and ask a few more questions. Thanks Brendan
  • 5/5 from Denise Cooke, attended Apr 2026: The tools workshop was super informative and interesting. The tutorial was absolutely fantastic and very approachable and detailed in his approach. I highly recommend this course as I learnt so much especially about combination drills, screws and raw plug.
  • 5/5 from Lorna Brown, attended Apr 2026: It was a very enjoyable class, informative alongside practical experience. I would recommend wholeheartedly to others.
  • 5/5 from Monica Kumah, attended Apr 2026: This is a great introduction to power tools. I found it invaluable to have some hands on experience especially the tools I never used before. The advice on what to look for when buying tools, accessories and screws etc. It would be great if there was a more advance power tools course available so I could get more hands on experience. I will be looking at the other courses.
  • 5/5 from Joyce, attended Apr 2026: I took this course because I have just bought a house that needs renovating, and I was given a drill that I have used, but was never taught how to use it properly, and I am going to buy a sander. This course took us through the right way to use power tools efficiently and safely. It was great, and I can't wait to do more.
  • 5/5 from Isra Jawad, attended Apr 2026: The instructor was so encouraging and knowledgable and really good at giving you the confidence to try things.
  • 5/5 from Sheree, attended Apr 2026: Teacher was very thorough patient and nice Leant what I needed to know Value for money
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Mar 2026: This was a really helpful session. I've been doing some DIY for years, but still learnt lots on how to use a drill and what screws and rawl plugs work together. It was also great to try machines that I had never used, such as the circular saw, as the experience will make me more likely to use one in the future.
  • 5/5 from Nora Farrelly, attended Mar 2026: I just wanted to understand how to use the tools and the course delivered that. Really enjoyed it. Learnt lots especially about drilling into walls. Great teacher and will definitely book more another course
  • 5/5 from Rosemary Stevenson, attended Mar 2026: Very informative. A great instructor/ teacher. Best thing I’ve done in years. So well worth the money. If this course was available years ago I would have saved a lot of money. Would highly recommend. Instructor was very patient!!
  • 5/5 from Sarah Grieve, attended Feb 2026: I really enjoyed learning about different tools and how to safely use them. I know feel confident enough to go out and buy the right tools, and hopefully make some things. Sean was really good and really knowledgeable. I am already looking at what other courses I can do at POW!
  • 5/5 from Phillippa Gaituah, attended Feb 2026: My uppermost reason for attending was to gain confidence in use of power tools. Not only did I learn how to use my power tools, I learned how to best use a jigsaw. Teacher was clear, concise and very engaging. Venue was suitable. I enjoyed the entire experience. Excellent day. Thank you again.
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Feb 2026: Great course and Sean great teacher - would say definitely for absolute beginners but great to get a full understanding of everything.
  • 5/5 from Carol Murray, attended Feb 2026: Excellent intro to power tools and diy basics. Sean (teacher) was knowledgeable and friendly and had great teaching style. Would recommend!
  • 5/5 from Maya Traykova, attended Jan 2026: Absolutely brilliant class with Sean Rodrigo. I've reluctantly used a drill before but I never had the confidence to do stuff around the house because I always thought that I don't know the basics and I'll mess up. This class gave me the knowledge and confidence that I needed to start fixing stuff around the house myself. We learnt everything about different types of drill bits, how to use a combination drill and then how to put a shelf up in different types of walls, sanded wood, used different kinds of saws to cut MDF and wood. Really practical workshop and also Sean is a lovely human being and a great teacher, so I felt seen and heard. I highly recommend this class!
  • 5/5 from Sarah, attended Jan 2026: No ocassion. Learned about different power tools and better understanding of how to use them in a safe and efficient way. Teacher was brilliant. Made the class fun but more importantly delivered a super informative class.
  • 5/5 from Georgina James, attended Jan 2026: Really great informative session, friendly and non-judgmental atmosphere. Highly recommend for anyone interested in taking on DIY projects and want to feel more confident (or understand where they might be going wrong!).
  • 5/5 from John Tanter, attended Jan 2026: Bought as a gift for me. Was a great course. Sean made it fun and there was loads of good information
  • 5/5 from Alexandra McLeod, attended Jan 2026: I went to a beginner power tools workshop with sean rodrigo. He was fantastic and created a brilloant learning environment. It was super helpful and i now feel confident in starting some little diy projects. I knew a bit but was great to learn how to do properly. So worth it!
  • 5/5 from Vee Matthew, attended Jan 2026: Power tools for beginners Saturday morning I wanted to learn how to use a drill effectively and understand what screws, nails etc to use with what bit and when Sean was easy to follow, clear instructions Sean exceed expectations with his knowledge and experience Hands on experience is always the best, Sean delivered and encouraged questions Sean shared his knowledge and experience with a good sense of humour and patience and instilled confidence. He organised a handout for reference which will be invaluable in the future The workshop was perfect for learning and group size perfect, with examples of where specific tools could be applied and different samples of wood I was excited by the experience and will be using my drill with confidence, thanks for organising the course and delivering an awesome experience, I'll be looking at other courses
  • 5/5 from Kirsten Gollifer, attended Dec 2025: I wanted to refresh my knowledge using power tools and had come across POW online so booked the class. We used combi drills, orbital sanders, jigsaws and circular saws as well as speaking through lots of theory. Sean was a fantastic teacher and the 3 hour class flew by! We learnt lots of useful information in a fun and relaxed environment - would absolutely recommend and will look at what other courses I can so!
  • 5/5 from Julia K Basnett, attended Dec 2025: This was a very basic course which was exactly what I wanted. We talked through the combi drill and practiced drilling into different surfaces, which screws did what, when to use rawl plugs and things like that. We went through sanding grits and what different levels of grit will do to the cells and grain of wood. We had a go with a jigsaw and circular saw, talking through their applications and uses, and the use of different materials. It was a small class, only 4 of us, in a well equipped small workshop/classroom space. Sean the facilitator was knowledgeable and amusing and we got our questions answered well. It was a fun workshop, the dynamic was great. I recommend.Be clear that it really is an introduction so if you have already used power tools to some degree this might not be for you EXCEPT unless you are really fairly experienced I would bet there are things here that you don't know.
  • 5/5 from Samuel, attended Nov 2025: It was a fun and informative session learning how to use power tools on a variety of common materials. I would recommend this workshop as a great opportunity to try out some essential power tools you would need for any DIY project at home.
  • 5/5 from Wendy Freeman, attended Nov 2025: Very useful workshop, the teacher was knowledgeable and helpful. It gave me confidence to use the power tools myself in future. Thanks!
  • 5/5 from Jim Brennan, attended Nov 2025: Sean is a fantastic tutor who has so much knowledge. He ensured that everybody had the opportunity to use all of the power tools and was very encouraging when I was nervous about the circular saw. I have been to other courses Sean has run and his delivery is always clear and entertaining at the same time. It was a great learning experience for me.
  • 4/5 from Mark Dear, attended Nov 2025: Very warm and welcoming tutor - he explained everything so well, clearly and answered all my questions.
  • 5/5 from Anna McCole, attended Oct 2025: Great workshop, learnt so much! Even about tools I thought I knew about anyway. Venue could use a little more signage
  • 4/5 from Geetha Suryanarayan, attended Oct 2025: Great class, great instructor! Steve was enthusiastic and patient- a grat combo for a beginner's class. What would have made this workshop brilliant would be to have some notes that could be mailed on to us after. There were a lot of things I learnt that could benefit from some notes to refer back to.
  • 5/5 from Caroline Silvestre, attended Sep 2025: I had a great time having a go at the most useful tools for home projects. Drill, sander, jigsaw, router, circular saw. These seem intimidating at first, but that was quickly dispelled with Sam’s patient guidance. Overall I have definitely gained experience and that is precisely what I wanted and expected. Thank you.
  • 5/5 from Helen, attended Sep 2025: Great introduction to a variety of tools and hands on practice. Shaun very good at making sure questions were answered. Definitely feel more confident to tackle jobs around the house and some up cycling.
  • 5/5 from Anne, attended Sep 2025: I joined the course because I am a self-taught woodworker and have never been taught how to use/choose power tools to their best advantage.
