Oil Pastel Workshop with Kate Stephens

A fun workshop using oil pastels to create a landscape.

2 hours Class size 1 to 12 guests       £40

Ever looked at an oil painting and thought "I want to do that!"? Want to combine learning with fun and prosecco?
Using landscapes by a selection of well-known artists for inspiration, you will be introduced to mark-making and various oil pastel techniques, such as blending, cross-hatching, and sgraffito. By looking at the shapes, pattern, colours, and emotions in these works, you'll get an understanding of how to build your version within a relaxed, supportive atmosphere.
Oil pastel is very user-friendly and unlike oil paint, doesn't require the use of brushes, turpentine, or building up in a particular sequence. And your beautiful artworks can be taken away without the need for drying or fixing, ready to be framed and hung on the wall.
This class is suitable for anyone who wants to use this versatile medium in a relaxed environment. No prior experience is necessary.
Enjoy a complimentary prosecco, with further refreshments available to purchase from the bar.
Kate's lively and enjoyable workshop gave not only an introduction to oil pastel techniques but by using images of famous landscape works, encouraged us to think more deeply about how these techniques can be used to convey emotion in our work. Altogether an absorbing couple of hours – would recommend." Helen

House of Denna is a cafe in South East London owned by Denna.
A silversmith by trade, she wanted to open a cosy venue where people could come and take part in a variety of workshops while drinking a coffee and enjoying a slice of cake.
As this is a cafe, we ask you not to bring in external food and drink.
