Botanical Ink Making Workshop

Learn how to make natural inks and enjoy a mindful botanical painting session.

2 hours Class size 7 to 30     label £25 (£40 per class surcharge applies for private classes)

In this introductory botanical ink-making workshop, we will explore how to extract pigments and make inks out of natural materials around us, including seasonal plants, food, and garden waste. You will also learn ways to preserve your inks over a period of time. By the end of the session, we will share some time and space painting with them in a mindful, relaxing atmosphere. You will go home with your paintings and your own botanical colour swatch.

Join me at The Baths in Hackney Wick to be guided on a natural ink making technique that you'll be able to apply with many different plants and organic waste later on, if you'd like to carry on with the experimentation.

This is a family-friendly workshop, children supervised by adults, as well as beginners and more experienced participants are welcome to join.

Accessibility:

The building is fully accessible, with ramps and a wheelchair lift.

Tips and tricks on how to make natural inks as well as how to preserve them. Please bring a small jar with a tight lid or two if you would like to take some ink home.

What to bring
All materials and tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own watercolour or ink friendly paper as well as gathering in advance some onion skins, avocado pits and skins, pomegranate skins, and/or used tea bags to extract colour from.

Please also bring a notebook and a pen if you fancy getting a bit technical and taking some notes for reference. Although the class will be very practical, I will give you some tips that you might want to write down.

I am a visual artist and arts educator working with colour, textiles, minerals, clay, seeds, flowers and pigments that I extract from plants around me and nearby.

I specialise in sustainable wellbeing workshops and mindful sessions for community groups, CPD and staff training for small companies and institutions.

I have been working with natural dyes since 2019 and have an extensive experience planning and delivering creative and engaging sustainable workshops for people of all ages and many backgrounds.

I see these experiences as tools for learning but also for grounding and reflection that aim to connect with ourselves and with others in a supportive, non judgemental safe space. Interested in mental health and wellbeing, I nurture environments where people can reach a deeper level of understanding of their feelings and emotions, allowing time for play and exploration with a focus on the process of making and collective learning.
