Learn the basics of weaving, create your first piece of woven fabric, and take your very own loom home with you. In this relaxed beginner workshop in London, Tamara will take you right from the beginning, showing you how to set up your own weaving loom and turn yarn into fabric.
You'll learn how to warp your loom, how the weaving process works, and how to create a simple woven piece using colour and texture. There will be plenty of time to experiment too, because one of the lovely things about weaving is seeing what happens when you start playing with different yarns, colours, and ideas.
What you'll learn:
  • How to set up and warp your loom.
  • The basic principles of weaving.
  • How to create a simple woven fabric.
  • How to work with different colours and yarns.
  • How to keep your weaving even and deal with those slightly wonky edges that happen when you're learning.
  • How to finish your weaving and continue experimenting at home.
Tamara has a degree in Textiles and first discovered weaving at university, where she felt an almost ancestral connection with the process. It's a craft humans have practised for thousands of years, yet there is something wonderfully absorbing about sitting at a loom today and making cloth one row at a time.
She finds weaving soothing, relaxing, and therapeutic, as well as a brilliant way to stretch your imagination and creativity, and she loves passing those skills on to other people. And your loom is yours to keep.
You'll leave with your first piece of weaving, your own wooden loom, shuttle, and weaving comb, and most importantly, the knowledge to use them again. Come along, switch off from everything else for a few hours, and discover just how satisfying it is to make fabric from yarn, one row at a time.

  • 5/5 from Simon Fouracre, attended Oct 2026: I had tried weaving on a cardboard loom previously, so wanted to learn more, and this was the perfect class. We were shown a selection of images to choose from for inspiration and a basket full of yarns to colour match. We made a sample wrap of our colour choices and then we were shown how to set up the loom and weave. I completely lost myself and track of time in the weaving, and 3 hours passed without me noticing. Tamara showed us her own weaves and explained how the warp and weft made different patterns, and I tried out a different pattern myself. Using the proper equipment in this workshop was so much better than the improvised kit I tried at home. I was totally absorbed in it and it was a very enjoyable experience.

Tamara has always loved making things, but weaving has a particular place in her heart. With a degree in Textiles, she first explored weaving at university and felt an ancestral connection to the process.
She finds weaving soothing, relaxing and genuinely therapeutic, but also loves the way it stretches her imagination and gives her space to play with colour, texture and ideas. Tamara is a people person too, and gets enormous pleasure from sharing the skills she has learnt and helping someone else discover that they can make something for themselves.
Her workshops are about learning the skills, having a go and enjoying the process – you don't need to think of yourself as creative, and you certainly don't need to have woven before.
