The launch of a new KAYU workshop with the Artery Studio. Not your traditional batik, but a unique batik technique where we will make batik on beautiful mahogany plate using Javanese batik wax-resist dyeing technique.
What is BATIK KAYU? It's a craft adopted using traditional batik wax-resist dyeing technique on mahogany wood surface instead of your usual cotton fabric. This fun and therapeutic workshop is suitable for anyone, even absolute beginners.
Through this 3-hour workshop you will create your own batik plate while learning the basics of the art of batik canting.
What to expect:
  • Learn about the history of batik, how it is made, and the tools & materials needed for batik canting
  • Learn skills for "tulis" batik by using hot wax and a special "tjanting" tool
  • Experiment with mixing colours to produce the right tone and shade
  • All materials and tools provided
  • A beautiful piece of 22cm dia batik mahogany plate to take home
Get creative and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Batik and create your own batik plate perfect for your summer snacks & nibbles! This workshop makes a one-of-a-kind date activities, friends' outing, or just a fun evening to meet new friends over some batik painting and dumplings.
Note: Children aged 14+ can attend but must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.
