Japanese Art Batik Workshop

Explore the fusion of Japanese art with Malaysian wax & dye technique

In collaboration with Sophie Rose Art exhibition at the Artery Studio, we will create a Japanese artwork using traditional Malaysian batik wax-resist dyeing technique in this fun hands-on batik dyeing workshop.

What is modern contemporary batik? It's a brand-new kind of art which combines traditional Malaysian batik techniques with modern art. This fun and therapeutic workshop is suitable for anyone, even absolute beginners.

During this 3-hour workshop, you will create your own batik art design while learning the basics of the art of batik canting.

What to expect:

  • Learn about the history of batik, how it is made, and the tools & materials needed for batik canting
  • Learn skills for "tulis" batik by using hot wax and a special "tjanting" tool
  • Experiment with mixing colours to produce the right tone and shade
  • All materials and tools provided
  • A beautiful piece of 30cm dia batik art to take home

Get creative and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Batik and create your own artwork that is bound to impress! This workshop makes a one-of-a-kind date night, friends' night out, or just a fun evening to meet new friends over some batik painting and dumplings.

Note: Children aged 14+ can attend but must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.

What to bring
Bring an apron or wear clothes you don't mind getting spots on - fabric paint may stain clothes.

You can drive to the venue and park in the side streets or surface carpark nearby. It is 5 minits (0.3miles) walk from Worcester, Foregate Street Train station.
