Welcome Its Wheel Time
I will show you first the steps and talk through the process. Then, it’s your turn! I’ll be right next to you helping explain the steps and helping you. You will learn how to centre the clay, pull it and shape it. You will have about 3 pieces to choose from at the end, so you can choose one you like for the other steps.
Trimming / Shaping
This part you will shape the piece and then we will trim it. I will go over the basics of this process so that there isn’t any over trimming!
Painting / Decoration
Your piece is almost complete! Now, once all is complete you can then move on to add a bit of underglaze. Draw a pattern on there, some shapes - whatever just relax and go for gold.

5/5 from Arben Kikaj, attended May 2026: I had a very good time with my partner on this throwing course. Our teacher was really lovely and patient, and listened to what we wanted and try to help us get there. This was our very first time too but we were able to pick it up quickly because of her clear instructions. We would recommend this to any beginner!
Hi, I'm Charlotte, clay-obsessed, self-taught, and six years deep into a love affair with ceramics! I fell into ceramics during the pandemic and never looked back (my hands have never been the same, in the best way). There's nothing quite like the moment a wobbly lump of clay turns into something real on a pottery wheel. It's messy, meditative, and ridiculously fun, which is exactly why my wheel throwing classes make such a brilliant date night idea in Edinburgh. Trade the usual dinner-and-a-movie for clay under your nails, a few giggles, and a one-of-a-kind creation to take home (bonus points if it's a little wonky).I taught pottery classes in Porto before swapping it for Edinburgh, where I've just opened my new ceramics studio. Whether you're booking a romantic date night, a fun activity with friends, or a solo creative escape, I'll guide you through beginner-friendly wheel throwing in a relaxed, no-pressure space.Looking for unique date night ideas in Edinburgh or a hands-on pottery class for beginners?
