My Story - Zethu Maseko
I am a London-based artist specialising in textiles, spanning weaving, punch needling, and tufting. I create large-scale tapestries and wall hangings using both traditional and experimental methods, often working with recycled and sustainable materials.
I graduated with First Class Honours in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, where I received the Nicholas and Andrei Tooth Prize, and was selected for New Contemporaries (2020). My work has been supported by Arts Council England (DYCP, 2024) and recognised with awards including the Young Achiever Future Leader Award at the UK Parliament (2019), the Tuwezeshe Akina Dada Fellowship (2018), and the Peter Stanley Prize (2017).
I’ve completed residencies at Rame Projects in Cornwall, The Workshop in Cape Town, and POPArt in Johannesburg, and exhibited and performed in the UK and internationally. Alongside exhibitions, I’ve spoken at Shoreditch Arts Club and CreativeMornings/London, and I regularly lead weaving and textile workshops for communities in the UK, Eswatini, and South Africa. Teaching allows me to share my passion for transforming everyday scraps into beautiful, functional textiles.
