4 hours Location Harlesden Class size 1 to 6 (public classes), 6 to 16   £98 - £110 (£110 per guest when you book for 1 guest, £98/guest for 2+ guests)

In this hands-on workshop at POW Workshops in London, you'll craft your own hardwood serving board from start to finish. Shaping, sanding, and applying a food-safe finish to create something you'll actually use (or give as a gift that'll genuinely impress).
Over four hours, you'll work through a range of woodworking techniques, guided step-by-step by our experienced instructor. It's a tangible, satisfying project: you walk in with nothing and walk out carrying something you made with your own hands.
Here's what you'll cover:
  • Selecting and understanding different hardwoods and their characteristics
  • Marking out and shaping your board design
  • Sawing and cutting techniques to create your chosen shape
  • Sanding through the grits, from rough shaping to a smooth, tactile finish
  • Applying a food-safe oil finish that brings out the natural grain of the wood
  • Basic tool handling and workshop safety
This is a standalone project class with no pathway or progression required. It's designed for complete beginners and anyone who wants to spend a morning or afternoon making something with their hands. It also makes a great experience gift.
What you'll get
A beautiful handmade hardwood serving board, finished and ready to use. Perfect as a centrepiece for your kitchen, a charcuterie board for entertaining, or a thoughtful handmade gift. All tools and materials are provided.
What's next?

  • 5/5 from Zetasha, attended Oct 2026: I’ve recently become interested in woodworking, and I thought this class was fantastic for beginners. I’m definitely more of an in-person learner, so being able to learn hands-on made a big difference for me. Brandon was a great instructor with brilliant energy, and he made the whole experience really enjoyable. I’m so happy with the cheese board I made and will definitely be signing up for another class soon! I also learnt about the different stages of sanding: 80, 120 and 240 grit and I’ll definitely be applying what I learnt to future projects. Overall, if you’ve been hesitant about getting started with woodworking, I’d highly recommend coming here. It’s a brilliant place to learn the basics, get hands-on and build your confidence. Big kudos to Brandon for making it such a great experience!
  • 5/5 from Michael C Duffin, attended Sep 2026: Superb class, beautiful little piece to take home and great expertise to support the experience. I will definitely go back for another class!
  • 5/5 from Claudia Keenlyside, attended Sep 2026: Lovely class with a supportive teacher who kept a keen eye on everyone particularly as power tools were involved. The upshot of the class was beautiful serving boards for cheeses, nibbles etc. Maybe for bread but it would be a shame to ruin the finish with a bread knife.
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Aug 2026: In our 4 hr wood work workshop, we made a serving board per person. We were both new to woodwork. There were a few types of wood panel to choose from. Each panel was were beautiful and large in size to make perfect serving tray or cutting board. Brandon was an excellent instructor, who was attentive and highly skilled. He allowed us space to be creative and patiently demonstrated how to cut, smooth the edges, make a hole, sand the surface of the wood panel. It was such a fun experience to design my own serving board and make it come to live. Highly recommend!
  • 5/5 from Keith McMahon, attended Aug 2026: 10/10 I could not recommend this more! The instructor (sorry I forgot his name, but he was a super chill Aussie guy) was so helpful, patient and knowledgeable. The guy is a legend, I'll be recommending these courses to all my mates and deffo be coming back
  • 5/5 from Jacob Noble, attended Jun 2026: Amazing experience. During this workshop you get to learn more about how to cut, shape, sand and finish wood, use cool machinery and tools, and ultimately create a great quality, solid wood serving board. We got to choose between 4 woods, all of them nice. Our teacher, Brandon, was super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in guiding us through the process.
  • 5/5 from Jessica Bowie, attended Jun 2026: My husband and I had such a great time making our serving boards, thanks to the expert tuition of Brandon. We also super happy with the final results - one is going to be a wedding present and the other a 70th birthday present. Thanks so much WOW!
  • 5/5 from Indyana Schneider, attended Jun 2026: Truly the loveliest time! We organised a private class for a hen party and not only did we learn to make amazing boards, but POW decorated the room for us and offered us non-alcoholic fun drinks! The loveliest afternoon!
  • 5/5 from Adam, attended May 2026: Birthday present with my son - we both enjoyed making our boards. The teacher was engaged helpful with ideas and suggested solutions.
  • 5/5 from Polina, attended May 2026: POW Workshop School is an excellent place to learn and create. Brandon is an incredible teacher who supported me through every step of the process, from the initial visual draft to sawing, finishing, and completing the project. What makes his classes truly unique is his individual approach to each student. He takes the time to understand everyone’s goals and provides personalized guidance to help them achieve the results they want. His patience, expertise, and encouragement make the learning experience both enjoyable and rewarding. I highly recommend Brandon’s classes to anyone looking to develop their skills in a supportive and inspiring environment.

  • 5/5 from Annie Underwood, attended Apr 2026: I had the BEST time! We were walked through how to use all the tools, helped to make our (sometimes complicated) designs a reality, and I came away with a chopping board I'm really proud of. The time flew by, our tutor was brilliant, and nothing was too much bother. I would 1000% recommend!
